What computer networking topics interest you the most? Which are the most frustrating or complex?

Because I work in this field, I'm surrounded by many different kinds of technology all day long. After a few years, it's easy to forget which topics were the hardest to master.

Which topic do you find the most difficult to comprehend?

Are there any topics that you would like to read more about?

I am old enough to remember the apple II in school and I always loved working with computers and I even did some programming in my earlier years. I have no idea at all what is what when it comes to networking. I can connect my router to the computer and make a wireless connection for everyone else in the house. But thank goodness the computer does most of the work.
Most techs think people understand things they don't because we just shake our heads. I find it frustrating when reading a help file and they over explain something simple but completely skip over another point.
I am one of these people that can remember something if I understand it. If I were going to make a manual for me I would take one topic at a time and explain each one from the original history to how it works to how to implement it.
Take an ethernet connection for instance. why call it ethernet?  Do you spray ether on it? Who invented it and why? Why does it look like a phone line? why not just use a phone line connection? Maybe I'm in the minority but when I want to learn something I want to know ALL about it to really get a good grasp on what it is that I looking at. Somewhere when I was in school and til now they came up with a million new terms and uses for those terms. I am way behind because of it.  Hope that helps.

It sure does help, thanks Foodeee. I'll see what I can do to post a Hub that tells the story of why Ethernet is what it is. You've inspired me!

Ethernet was just an example. There are a million areas that i have no idea about.

I'll give Ethernet a try, and see if that gets any traction. If so, I'll keep branching out.
