I LOVE skateboarding, yet it's looked upon as an issue because I'm a girl. What do y'all think?

There's something incredible I feel when I skate. Like nothing but adrenaline..it's amazing. And I can ride pretty good for a beginner. I can go down ramps too, mastered that a week ago. Can't do an Ollie yet but that's next on my list. We get labeled "posers" when we can't Ollie, yet I don't do it for the look or guys, even though I get the attention from them. I love skateboarding for the rush and thrill of it. NOTHING else.

If it's what you like to do, do it. Don't worry about other people's opinions. Life is too short not to have some fun and if skateboarding is fun for you, ride (is that the word?) to you can't do it any more. As for whatever an Ollie is, the people making fun of you had to learn it at some point didn't they? You'll get there. As for things being an issue because you're a girl ... I ran into that a couple of years ago when I learned how to ride a motorcycle and then bought one. It's what I wanted to do so I did it and the guys can laugh all they want.

I am also female, and I skateboard all the time. I get more people telling me that they are impressed than people who look down on me for it. And I am closing in on my 30th birthday. If you enjoy doing it, nothing should stop you. It is exhilarating, fun and freeing, so just go for it!

I rarely see other females skateboarding, but like I said, it is what it is and I love it so I couldnt care less what others say or think!

Do what you want to do. Screw what others think. When I used to skate, I thought skate chicks are cool - better than the ones sitting at the sidelines watching on.

You'll nail the ollie in the end:
-Try it on grass so the skateboard can't roll away.
-Standing beside your board, stamp on the tail and you can see the mechanics of how to get the board off the ground pivoting on the rear wheels.
-Now stand on it, leading foot in the middle, rear foot on the tail and stamp on the tail whilst jumping up, you can see how the board feels like it's sticking to the lead foot.
-Now do the same jump/stamp whilst dragging your lead foot up towards the nose and bringing your rear foot up after the stamp.

If you timed the last bit right, you just did an ollie as the board completely left the ground. Now tidy it up by, for instance, not having the rear foot lose contact with the tail. Also try it rolling. (Smooth floor without tiles or tiny stones is best so you don't get a jerky ride.)
