What makes some people believe that parenthood is a right instead of a privilege?

In the minds of so many people, parenthood is a right. They strongly &vehemently contend that people should become parents if they WANT regardless. As a result, children are born into less than positive familial environments, having detrimental or negative effects on the children including abuse & poverty. Such negative components have deleterious effects follow children into adulthood Parenthood should be a PRIVILEGE, not a right. Parenthood requires maturity, sacrifice, and planning. Smart parents THINK carefully before having children; they want the BEST for their children in EVERY WAY.

I like your commit it is very true .but if you get caught up in the moment of a different outcome. Then you have to face that situation. That is the power of humans to bring life into the world in a responsible way. Many people have been born not planned, but still loved and cared for and have contribute to many successful occupations in the highest form. We are given the power to have and to raise children ,but this is a gift of God .reality we all belong to him. Rather our children are still small until Adult hood they belong to him. We were just their way to enter into this world to care for them until they can take care of them self.
    Life is precious.

I side with Kahlil Gibran on this issue, "Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you."
And for the interested, the rest of this passage can be read here http://www.katsandogz.com/onchildren.html

Because we are equipped by NATURE with the ability to reproduce. A privilege is granted by an authority. All the authority required to become a parent has been granted by nature, itself.

i think ur absolutely right, im a preschool teacher and i can see how some people have kids and they r so not ready for them and in result u find those kids lost with no guidance or even a decent behavior. sometimes i wish someone stood up and told them they r not ready for kids because it's really sad that some kids pay now and later for their parents immaturity ..

Most people look at having sex as their private right to do and therefore any "by product" as a result of having sex is also their right.
I agree too many people are having children without being "prepared" to take on the responsibility to raise them, educate them, and prepare them to be self-sufficient contributing adults to society.
Most people look at having children as an "automatic given". They never think in terms of it being something that is "optional" or consider the possibility that they just may not be cut out to be good parents.
A very long time ago when I was a teenager I thought driving a car was a "right" and my instructor explained it was a "privilege". In other words the state/government does not have to grant one a license to drive. They may also take that privilege away. Needless to say the state can't keep people from having sex or prevent them from conceiving children no matter how dire their financial circumstances are or lack of parental skills.
Clearly some people especially teens and young adults are having children to with the hidden agenda of keeping their mate attached or in a moment of insanity they thought it would be wonderful to make a "cute baby" between them. I've known some guys who acted as if they were doing women a favor by getting them pregnant. After a breakup one of them might say; "I really cared about that girl. I was thinking about letting her have my baby." LOL! It's a twisted way of saying they thought she was special. ha ha
In a free society people have the right to do things to make their lives difficult and miserable.
