Does anyone make decent money on Hubpages?

I have had an account on Hubpages for two years.  I only have 5 hubs and am thinking of closing my account.  I have asked other writers on here about their formula of  writing ,and haven't really got any useful answers.  What is the secret?  Why does it seem like only a handful of people make money and get recognized?

There is no secret. Just like anything else it takes hard work, dedication, and resilience. To make "really good" money.... that is what Hubpages is doing for itself smile

What a great, succinct answer.  I will keep that in mind.  I think I need to actually try to plan and map out my articles, so they won'e be so nicheless.  Respect!

No. I wish I did. I just write on hubpages because I enjoy writing and reading other hub writer's comments. I also enjoy reading other hub writers work.

Much love to Lisavanvort and JThomp42, I think that sometimes it is a hit and miss thing.  It sounds like I need to have more of a plan and a little more patience.  JThomp resilience is key, thank you.  Lisa, it is about loving to write.  I really needed some answers and received two very good ones.  Priceless!

You need more than 5 hubs!  There is no magic number, but it's definitely more than 5.  You need to promote your hubs so people know about them.  I use Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest to generate traffic to my hubs.  And finally, it takes time for your hubs to catch on.  Be patient and keep writing.

Thanks for the answer, I pretty much know that and that is not what I am asking. I want to know if I need to plan more or not. Should I concentrate on a niche or just write about anything?

If you consult the Help pages, there is tons of great info on creating hubs and making money.  I especially like this article:  http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/great-content

I am brand new to Hubpages (3 weeks) and yet to write my first Hub, but I think like everything the amount of return is based upon your level of investment, How much time do you invest in your writing? I think in order to be successful you need to constantly be writing numerous hubs with quality content.

I remember reading that someone here made over $30,000 per year here. However that is rare - I personally make several hundred per month on this account.

Basically, traffic brings money. So work on getting organic traffic.
