The short answer is "Yep!" The long answer is "Most definitely!"

I must agree. I saw someone nearly get hit because they were too busy on their phone while walking ACROSS a busy street. Then I thought about the unfortunate fact that people actually die due to not only walking but also driving while distracted.

I totally agree with Jayfort. But I have a question to pose - Is common sense learned? I don't remember "learning" to have common sense so what has happened that it's becoming more and more uncommon? My inquiring mind wants to know.

Goodness we are on the same wavelength. "I don't remember "learning" to have common sense" either.

From Wikipedia: "Common sense is a basic ability to perceive, understand, and judge things, which is shared by ("common to") nearly all people, and can be reasonably expected of nearly all people without any need for debate."

I would say taught by parents and teachers through observation and experience while young  to develop perception, understanding, and judgment. ("Don't touch. It's hot. It'll burn you!") The question is...are parents/teachers taking the time anymore.

Interesting point. I feel that common 'sense' is so diverse today. For instance I have no common sense with a cell phone. I don't own one. Another may be interrupting. It seems it is common sense to interrupt today. Again, look at the cell phone.

I posed a simular question. Really I think as a person with a whole lot more common sense than book brains it's just there for the most part, or not there. Just when you think a few hard knocks have made some common sense develop  in someone, they revert back to their old ways. It just doesn't stick. It seems it's never a permanent lesson learned. I see so much at my work as an Officer in Prison. I was a toddler with common sense. I wouldn't trade it for book brains ever.

Common sense is a sense , which is not common.

Sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell are also senses which relate to how people perceive their surroundings. Enough people have those senses for them to be considered common. Common sense relates to perception, understanding, and judgment.
