What is the significance of having a tattoo?
I have 5 tattoos and I love them all. I don't regret getting any of them and it does not bother me in the slightest that they are with me until my dying days. What do you think about them?
I love my tattoos. Each one of the has a meaning. The one with the most significance is probably my wedding band. I have a few more I would like to get. I like knowing that they will be with me forever!
Wow I never saw the wedding bands before. Did you get rings also or just stick with the tattoos?
Rings first, tattoos on our 5 year anniversary.
Tattoos mean different things for different people. Most are an expression of a like (hobby, band, person, team), of affiliation (group, military, family) or they're a memorial/tribute. I currently have none but there is one I am going to get that will match one my spouse is getting. She has several tattoos herself. A couple are memorials to people who were important in her life who have passed on (one is a tribute to her grandparents and one to her father), others are simply representations of things that she likes. Most of her side of the family is similarly tattooed.
One of my brothers has tattoos representing his favorite sports teams. My other brother has tattoos representing heavy metal bands he likes and the band he was in for some time. My grandfathers both had military tattoos.
I have no problem with most tattoos nor with heavily tattooed individuals except where those tattoos represent their gang affiliation or show hatred toward others (i.e., Neo-Nazi tattoos). I never got one myself because I have an incredible fear of needles. I'm going to brave the tattoo gun one time to get the one my spouse and I both want. I'll just continue to admire everyone else's body art!
I agree with you about the offensive tattoos. Seems like all those people want them for is the attention. Where are you getting your tattoo done? Some places hurt more than others. It's a big commitment for you to overcome your fear of needles!
I don't see any significance in having a tattoo. What if, one day, you didn't want it anymore? You're stuck with it. And what if you are a completely different person at 60 than you were at 20? You're stuck with the tattoo. Sure, you can remove them surgically, but I heard that hurts, and it is expensive.
All of my tattoos are in memory/honour of family and I am 100000% sure I will never regret them.
Signifance varies by person. I know some people that get tattoos of random things that don't particularly have any meaning, they just thought they looked nice. That's not something I would personally do, but to each their own. Each of my tattoos holds a lot of significance to me, which is why I got them.
I agree. When i hear a person say they are gonna get a tattoo because it looks nice am almost certain they will regret it.
