I had my ears pierced at the end of my first grade year.  I had to be about six.  I cannot remember if it hurt or not.  But I remember my mom bringing me somewhere.  I guess anywhere around that time is fine.  Don't do it too young, though.

The best age is when the girl is age enough to decide for herself if she wants ears pierced or not.

+1!! The right age is when the child can ask for what they want. It bothers me to see infants with their ears pierced.

I never got my ears pierced 'cause my father didn't let my mother pierce, & I just don't see the point. My daughter is 10, she doesn't have ears pierced, if one they she wants to, she will. Her decision. no one forces boys to pierce anything.

I don't know the exact age but in India majority of girls and boys get ear pierced after 6 to 8 month after there birth its a tradition here rather than fashion.... I get pierced after 9 months of my birth....

It's not needed.  I would only get my daughters ears peirced when she could fully understand what the process would be, and accepted that it would hurt and there was some aftercare involved...  And only after she had continue to ask for her ears to be pierced for a long period of time, each time I would remind her of the process and that it would hurt. My daughter is pre-school aged and does not want hers pierced at this point in time, however she does love to play with her pretty clip-on earrings, which can be purchased on ebay for just a few dollars and are more appropriate at this age.  Try the clip on earrings for some time to see how your daughter feels wearing them before you even consider it!  There is plenty of time when she's older to get it done if she wants to.

Wow clip on earrings are a good idea without ear piercing
