Is my 97 Honda worth saving?
I took a nosedive into about 4 feet of water. Should I try to repair damage of have it totaled. Ins. Co. will do either option.
Wow, what a drag, Mary! One thing I'd be worried about if you choose to have it repaired is the rust that is bound to form after being submersed in water. I'd look up the Blue Book value of your car first and compare that to what the insurance company is willing to give you. Weigh your pros and cons. Good luck!
It looks like an Accord, which there are many out there. The issue is that flood damage will be attached to your carfax report forever more. Diminishing its resale value.
Fortunately if you love that particular car you can replace or fix, since parts and replacements are readily available.
If it were rare or a "classic" car then there would be no question to fix it. Id just do your homework and fight for its value, since insurance wants to pay out as little as possible.
Good luck!
Yes, it is a Honda Accord. I have taken such good care of this car. It only has 107,000 miles on it, too. I do love the car, but I'm concerned about having it repaired. Thanks so much.
Is the motor hydro locked? (id water get in engine) does it still run? If not id goto honda and have it replaced. Especially if you love it, honda will put new parts (engines too) vs. Repair shops.
The car is at the mechanic now. I haven't heard from him if water got into the engine, but I don't think so. It wasn't that deep in the water. My son-in-law says the computer, etc. is underneath the dash and he thinks that may be water damaged.
Thanks, Mark. I'd love to save my little are, I just don't want problems "down the road" from the water intrusion.
Hi you have a great little car did the engine stall when you hit the water does it still run. Most cars going into water is just like driving on the freeway in heavy rain. If it runs get to a good carwash and getter crud out keep your little gem. TC
4 feet of water is not much. ask how much they will charge for it to be repaired... i don't think it should cost much. (only labour costs no part replacements).
I have driven my car many times in the floods here while the water was as high as the side view mirrors... there will be no long-term issues with it.
I feel better after reading your comment, thanks! The mechanic called and said he felt confidant there would be no future problems. He replaced the computer console, ripped out and replaced the flooring, etc. I know the Ins. Co will just repair.
in the floods here we had a lot of cars which drowned completely... after changing the computer the cars were all good once again and didn't have recurring problems. absolutely nothing to worry about.
The Ins. Co. paid their mechanic to repair the car. I talked with him, and he assures me the car will be fine!
I encountered a similar situation on a rainy day a few years back. The car in question was a 2009 Toyota Camry and it was a total loss. The car was less than two years old at the time too.

Would you rather get your smartphone repaired or replace it?Cell phone repair is a booming industry, but it has its drawbacks. If you don't take your phone to a credible location that offers a robust warranty, you might have a useless phone at the end of it all. Would you rather fix...
