Have we become too dependent upon technology?
I just purchased an Embroidery Machine for home use. I can remember when my older relatives used to do this by hand. Now, I can push a couple of buttons and the machine does it for me while I work on another project. I could do it by hand but because of my arthritis it would take much longer. Does physical limitations justify our dependency? What about those that don't have such limitations?
Well we almost got sent back to the stone age in 2012 by a solar flare. Now what's ever scarier than that is that same effect can be man made with an EMP. That's how fragile technology is.
And if your house is secured electronically and there is a power failure, just think about the implications!
Have we become too dependent upon technology?
I will bet the answer is yes. I was thinking about this the other day, when my camera all of a sudden flashed a picture of an empty battery at me and then, shut off.
Think of the impact if battery companies all of a sudden no longer produced mini power sources like we take for granted now.
Yes indeed, i still do not own a sewing machine or a cake mixer. Still sewing manually by hand and beating batter manually too
Yes, I have to admit, you have brought up a good point. Not only do our Keurig machines make us coffee and tea, but Spotify and Slacker radio have replaced our manual radios and record players, speech recognition has replaced our typing, and texting has replaced our phone conversations. We talk to our phones to ask questions instead of asking people.
It's a strange and interesting reality I think. However, Technology has brought us things that would never be possible before like finding old friends on facebook, and networking with 100's of people on Linkedin, and of course Hubpages! I wax just thinking about the community of friends I have online.
So, yes, it's a techie world but one with endless possibilities. I did not realize there was an embroidery machine. Pretty amazing! ;-)
I like your answer! Yes, gone are the days of "manual labor" so to speak. If you got the savvy and the money ... life can be pretty easy in that regard. And ... I am so loving my embroidery machine. It's great fun and challenging work!
My mother used to do embroidery by hand in Italy when she was young.
BTW, hats off to you for all the books you have published. I tried to connect to you on Linkedin but it would not let me. My dream is book publishing! I'll take any advice!
Amelia, try using my linkedin icon in the profile ... I would be happy to connect with you! My advice is to write ... write ... write and more writing about anything. The more you write the better you will be at it. You can do it!
Jacqueline, That's great advice to write, write, write. It told me I had to upgrade my Linkedin account when I clicked on your icon, but I searched for you on Linkedin and sent you an invite. Thanks!

So, my old Singer is about to give up the ghost, and I've been looking at sewing machines. How fancy a sewing machine do you have? I don't think I need something that does a million, fancy pre-set stitches but then again, features like that are sort of tempting. If you had to chose between a...

We are slowly turning into a machine inside our head we are losing the purity and beauty that our great ancestors had. How long we live like this like a prisoner trapped in a mechanical world. What the future generation from now onwards live like. Are we forgetting love, compassion, and humanity?...

How do I write hubs that get more views?I think I write about good topics and my hubs get views, but not a lot. Sometimes I edit my titles a few times to see what works. How do I invite more views to my hubs? Where can I share them to get more views besides Facebook and Twitter?
