What are some ways teachers can prepare students for college?
My two pennies worth of suggestions:
-Help them be responsible for their learning. Teachers are responsible to teach in High school. College professors are responsible to be available for students who want to learn, but greater responsibility lies on the student than before.
-Show them how to identify resources available to them and how to make the most of those materials.
-Help them identify how they learn best. What study techniques are most effective for them? What techniques aren't as effective? Could the use of these techniques be improved? (Teach them how to study efficiently. There is no perfect one-size fits all equation for this. It has to be personally tailored.)
-Help them become good writers. A correct answer that can't be communicated appropriately won't get points, whether in the college classroom, work place or life!
-Encourage them to reach for the moon and work hard. Make sure they know of all the opportunities and options available to them in college.
I agree. Teachers and educators should make sure that they know the opportunities of a good college education! Good comment kbdressman
I'm not sure if high schools currently teach it, but I am in college now to become a GED teacher and Life Coach. I think students need to learn APA formatting style for papers. I didn't learn it until I had to use it in college and for the first year, it made all my papers twice as time consuming because I didn't know the format. College professors dock points for improper formatting.
Yes Cobrien! You made a valid point. I also believe that teachers should teach their students the basic format of writing an essay. By the time they get to college, it'll be easier for them. Great response!
I'd teach MLA as well. I've had to use both throughout my college career.

And how much is just right?Obviously there will be differences between subjects, if you work with or without a textbook,...
