   Do You scare people away, or just attract more nastiness by swearing?
   
   If you swear, what are your aims and objectives?  2. Would you consider your self to have a small vocabulary (few words at your disposal?)

   Sometimes swearing just feels appropriate and other times it simply falls flat, depending on the situation and the company you keep. There is seldom an aim or objective when I swear, it is usually in response to some ignorance I have encountered. I consider myself to have a large vocabulary. There is not one word on the planet that offends me.  Sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt me, remember the old childhood chant?

      Yep this.  There are far worse things to be offended by.  I know plenty of smart people who let go in appropriate circumstances and I have no problem with it.

   There is a time and place for everything.  I don't believe in running around in public and swearing - or doing it in front of small children, but in proper circumstances, there's no harm in it.  Plenty of intelligent people swear at times; it has nothing to do with one's vocabulary or level of intelligence. 
   
   I dropped a can on my foot a couple of weeks ago and that led to a few choice words.  No apologies, no shame in it lol.

   Swearing has been scientifically shown to increase pain tolerance in humans. Perhaps you should ask yourself what pain a person bears that leads him or her to ease it in such a manner rather than wondering in what way it makes you superior to him or her?
   
   I have a very large vocabulary. Words fascinate me. I love learning the etymologies of words. I enjoy finding the words that best match a situation and applying them.
   
   Sometimes a swear word best matches a situation.
   
   When a bone is poking through your pant leg, the words "oh, shucky darn" just don't capture the emotional and physical pain being experienced. Sometimes emotional suffering alone requires more than a shucky darn. Sometimes a swear word provides emphasis that a shucky darn just can't. Sometimes profanity can serve as an expression of a realization of great profundity too intense to express coherently.
   
   Since I'm not religious, I don't assign degrees of sin to words. In my world, written words are only graphic symbols that represent things, people, actions, conditions, relationships, and many other ideas. In my universe, spoken words are only controlled sounds forming patterns people recognize and use to communicate, auditory symbols for all the same things written words stand for.
   
   In my belief system, the communication of emotions, thoughts, and ideas of a population shouldn't be restricted by the religious beliefs of a single particular religion, paying no attention to the beliefs or rights of others. I don't share the belief that some thoughts, ideas, and feelings are sinful to express as precisely as possible using the language available. I consider the words "shut up" to be offensive but I wouldn't question your intelligence or vocabulary if you wrote or uttered them.
   
   Censorship is failure to respect the symbolism of words and the rights of others to speak.

      censorship is everywhere; if /when you go to your best friends house -try shit on their carpet while watching TV/whatever; see if you get invited again !!! lol.

      The fact that you think I'd defecate on someone's carpet because I think it's wrong to look down on people and assume they are stupid for swearing shows how you perceive people. You judge people as unintelligent if they swear yet swear yourself.

      kylyssa. re your 2nd comment. That was the nastiest and most jusgemental comment Ive seen on these pages. I wasnt assuming you would. Rather making a point about censorship. If Id thought you stupid enough to actually do it I would not have said it.
