Do you believe that higher education should be a privilege instead of a right? Why? Why not?

I think it should be a privilege.

If higher education becomes a right, then a graduate diploma becomes something commonplace and widespread, reducing the worth of the diplomas themselves.

This phenomenon is what leaves lots of graduate students without jobs, because the employers simply no longer trust the education they receive, and there's also too many students graduating.

In some sense, diplomas are becoming more like high-school certificates, something not everyone possessed back then but something that is growing too commonplace to be of any significant value.

My views may be grimdark, but I hope you can find some truth in them.

It all depends on how we define privilege.

I believe that a person who has the core knowledge to finish a degree and also has the desire to get a degree should have a chance to attend college.

Many people have the privilege of wealth.  Many people have the privilege of attending schools prior to entering college that give them a great head start on making it through college.  There should be avenues for everyone who is capable of finish a degree to be able to have a chance to matriculate with a degree from a school of higher education.

Privilege could be defined by someone who works very hard to get a degree and puts in all the time and effort that is required get through college.

We cant stratify people and say some people can get a degree and some cant.  The right should be given to those who are capable of getting through college and the privilege should be defined as those who put in the effort to get a degree.

A degree can be both a right and a privilege  but it should not be a set a side for only privileged people...........
