   What would happen if all government ceased to exist?
   
   Do we really NEED government? If so can you name reasons why government is needed instead of people taking responsibility for their own country?

   The Nihilists would be happy.  Total anarchy would reign, I expect, and it's not a world I'd care to live in.    No law and order, no rules, every man for himself.   No thankyou.

   Most people aren't self-governing nor self-regulated.  That is why rules & other forms of structural boundaries are instituted.  The majority of people are unfortunately not evolved enough to be self-regulatory.   In essence, they NEED & MUST HAVE.........rules. 
   
   Sad to say that without any form of government, all hell would break lose.  Human life on earth will resemble the movie THE PURGE where people are free to act in any way they choose, knowing that there would be NO ramifications for their actions.  If all government cease,  THE PURGE would be heaven in comparison to what will actually happen in human societies.  The lack of governmental ordinance will render a society that will be a combination of THE PURGE & THE HUNGER GAMES.

      I disagree. I see most ppl as self regulated. We form our own rules. Some would be bad of course, but I don't think the majority of ppl are bad. Don't know if I could believe everyone needs to be told what to do by another human to be good. Thanks

   Great question to ponder. Basically, IMHO, all government is is a negotiated order to fulfill responsibility beginning with the individual and then family → neighbor → community → and etc. The establishment of a ruler is establishing government for those entities no matter how occurs.
   
   For instance power (however defined or accepted) vs. communal consensus (vote). In essence governments would form as each would be seeking a negotiated order. There would be presumptions made within family such as paternal, maternal, or mutual ruler. Thus beside responsibility enters respect of a negotiate order. So, in essence the answer to the first question is government would be formed by a negotiated order of power with communal consensus.
   
   So, Yes, we need government to define and establish responsibility and respect for community while need community to define government if communal government and not might as ruler. The next question embarks on a greater community. If  not governments at all, then not country. That leads to a plethora of loss - borders, economy, and services. Too much for me to think about :-)

      So we would self regulate causing us to become our own government? Personally, I think that would be a much better situation. It would take a while to calm down, but I think it would create a better world.

      I think so in essence. Like shared time would be significant related to transitions. Better world would be determined by leadership beginning with the individual deciding to lead or to follow and the family and etc. IMO

   If government ceased, you quickly see the rise of warlords/violent gangs turning into "the authority" - which turns into feudalism over a few years.

      But I would think after the initial craziness it would calm down and start over. Of course an initial shock would cause violence, but I don't think it would take too long for ppl to begin self regulation.
