Evolution cannot explain symmetry. Why would mindless processes care so much about symmetry?
I believe in God. Yet I have been open to the theory of evolution. Not being open to science is akin to walking with blinders on. Nevertheless, evolution falls short of explaining symmetry. A mindless, practical process would look for function and not form. Yet the vast amounts of different forms of life reflect symmetry and exaggerated attention to detail. A lot of attention has been paid to form and function, not just function. One cannot deny the beauty in life, from plants to monkeys to fish to humans. Why so much attention to beauty. Attention equals a designer.
First I would say that you are entirely mistaken to suggest that beauty has no function. Mate selection, for instance, is a very important (and practical) process. So too is the ability to develop an emotional bond with another person (or place or thing), to which beauty is a part.
As to Symmetry, you don't need evolution to explain that. How many locomotive asymmetrical machines can you name? None, if any. Planes, cars, trains, boats, bicycles, etc. All symmetrical (bilaterally anyway). It is a simple matter of mechanics.
Lastly, I think I would also disagree with characterizing evolution as "mindless". It is entirely possible that evolution was a process created by a higher power, for those who believe in such. For those who don't, it could still be argued that evolution has a driving purpose - to see tomorrow - and there is nothing mindless about that.
Hello junkseller,
At the beginning of time, when life began, evolutionists would have us believe that there was no mind or purpose. Life just began out of nothing.
Don't know what an "evolutionist" is or isn't, nor what they say/don't say, but scientifically, evolution says nothing about what was there before, and is limited on what it says about origins. You are putting words in the science's mouth
Junkseller,
I was paraphrasing Richard Dawkins and other people who study evolution. An evolutionist is a person who believes in the theories of evolution.

With all the evidence for the theory of evolution, why do some people still believe otherwise.Once you have got your head around the theory of evolution, it's pretty obvious that it's close to how it must work. After all, animal breeders do the same thing when they selectively breed their stock....

There is much debate about Evolution theory, and Creationism in the forums. Lets take it to the MOST BASIC level, "abiogenesis".Have a look at this (simplified) version of a single cell structure/biology, and tell me (everyone) HOW, this much complexity, can arise by, and of itself,...
