How much do we really know?

On my 40th birthday I was contemplating my lifes journey and what I have learnt, and I came to this conclusion: The older I get the more I realise how much I know about so little, which is very little about so much!
This gives me a hunger to keep learning but also keeps me humble.
    Your thoughts?

It depends on whether or not you have "A Communication Line" to GOD and your "level of faith" (Romans 1:17)!

Blessed, you may not believe this, but I have sometimes opened my mouth and the WORD of GOD comes out and *I* don't know it's in the Bible!  My aunt once told me that I couldn't be "in Christ" since I had received "revelations" that were not in agreement with the doctrine she believed and I was raised in!  She told me I was not "in Christ!"  I then told her "I AM RIGHTEOUS BY FAITH" (Romans 3:22)!  Little did I realize that was in Scripture at that point.

Another incident which confirms HE GIVES US KNOWLEDGE BASED ON OUR LEVEL OF FAITH AND WE HAVE "A COMMUNICATION LINE TO HIM:"  I had a dream of trees being popped by GOD but their roots remained in the earth!  Little did I realize that was in Scripture but I accidentally(?)  turned to the Book of Daniel Chapter 4:15 which says "Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth..."  The dream was so frightening I called my cousin and she gave Scripture that "trees" are as men in Bible!  GOD then "revealed" to me that as I preached HIS WORD, MOST would not believe and would remain "rooted and grounded" in false doctrine!

Consequently, from a "Spiritual" standpoint, we know as much as our LEVEL OF "FAITH" permits and Scripture says "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the WORD of GOD" (Romans 10:17)!  Therefore, it would behoove us to "STUDY" when someone tells you something different than what you believe to "See if those things are so" (Acts 17:11); ACQUIRE THE "ANOINTING" (aka "COMMUNICATION LINE") and HE will "lead and guide you into ALL TRUTH" (John 14:26)!

    Blessings

Life is never ending. I dont know how anyone be confident to say they "know" as a end ultimatum. There are so many layers to people and situations. Time will uncover new things. It just depends if we are around to witness it or become aware of it.

Who said *I* know? I ONLY indicate "I BELIEVE!"
Man, GOD doesn't LIE!  "FAITH" will move MOUNTAINS!
I pray ALL will come to rely on HIM as on their "seeing eye dog" if they were blind as I do!
      It's available to ALL!
      "STUDY!"

Heb 13:5 "Today if you hear HIS voice, harden not your heart..."
Rev 22:12 "And, behold, I come quickly: and my reward is w/me, to give every man according as his work (FAITH) shall be."

I agree with your sentiment. Personally that is a cause for why I dance between subjects and not focus on one today. Which one that I don't know about do I want to know more seeking some measure of expertise? In other words there are many things I know little of while realize there is so much more to each one. Interestingly a reason is because as I do look into them I realize how much something else affects the choice, thus more to learn, even though a tangent.

Anyway, "How much do we really know" to me is relative to how our experience with life. Every moment we live we are learning. And, yes, to me that is humbling.

An interesting video I watched discusses (The Speed of Darkness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTvcpdfGUtQ) the phenomena of your conclusion. It is called the Dunning-Kruger effect. It is at 9:31 of the 13:31 video.

When "man" continues to rely on "his understanding," they will NEVER KNOW (Prov 3:5) TRUTH!
Either one has "FAITH" in self or GOD!
Keep seeking "man's" knowledge but the INEVITABLE will happen and what then?
What a waste not to OBEY HIS COMMAND

Life is really a very long sojourn, a search for meaning or purpose. Perhaps you have found this to be so. It may be useful to see it as an experience that God is having in and through you, as such if or when suffering comes, you can then see it as an impostor. Real enough, but still an impostor.

We know very little with the veil in place; with the mirror dirty or the window curtains blocking out the sun. Yearning, longing, earnestness is necessary. Without need or seeking; without knocking, the door will not be opened. Nevertheless, one needs to serve, love, pray, worship ...

We know little because we use the mind, the intellect. The spiritual journey or Life's purpose is an internal or mystical journey and as such beyond the mind. I will ask you to be grateful, serve, love, forgive ... do the things which would widen the Heart and in so doing, make you more receptive to the Divine forces raining from above or within.

How much do you really know? A much better question. Go inside to find out. Joy and Peace.

A "man" doesn't "SEARCH" (Spiritually) and IF he does; he makes GOD A LIAR!
GOD SAID *HE* would "lead & guide us into "ALL" truth" (Jn14:26) & either you BELIEVE HIM or what "man" has told you!
      What FOOLS!
      They keep SEARCHING!
