I think only you could figure this one out.  This will be with you, your entire life.  Make sure it is something timeless and means something deeply personal to you.  No one knows better than you, what is most important to you.

Maybe come up with what that one important thing is, and then we can try to help you think of a symbol that represents that best smile

I have three tattoos. Two of which I designed for the most part before handing it off to my tattoo artist so he could put in his own creative flair.

I had a major back surgery and from it was left with 3 fairly long, gnarly looking scars. I got awfully tierd of people asking me who stabbed me. So I came up with an idea that sort of gave it a feel of stiches. It's 3 large bows that are laced and tied together creating one very personal tattoo of mine.

I would highly consider looking at things that are just a part of your character. For an example, I really enjoy nature and animals. I plan on incorporating a forest with a variety of forest animals on my next tattoo.

Other advice came from my mother (which for her was actually some of the best advice she's ever given me). Find/make a tattoo design and just hang it up somewhere you can see everyday or a few times a day. Make a point to look at it lots. If by a year's time you still love it, you still admire it, and you still want it permanently on you, then thats really when you'll know it's a good fit.

Thank you. I am creative in writing not art so it's hard to figure out.

HLKeeley, if you have any friends that are creative with a pencil, they could probably take what your telling them and come up with something that you'd like. Youl find something someday that will make something you say THATS IT!!

I recommend starting by researching your local artists. Go on Facebook, look at pictures, look at Yelp, and go in and look at their portfolio. When you find one you like schedule an appointment and shoot some ideas back and forth. Honestly, the artists want the freedom to create and don't want to make cookie cutter crap that some 18 year old copied from a Pinterest post. Give them some ideas about the style you want etc.
