What do you think of a new social welfare experiment in Finland?

They are giving random people $587 per month in a socal experiment to encourage people to work. The idea is they don't want people on welfare to be penalized by working. Is this a solution to the welfare state or is this a solution that is trying to fix a failed welfare state? Or something just crazy?

That which you incentivize, you will get more of.

It's interesting. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Of course a universal basic income is a dream for the left wing in the USA. It is forever a mistake to compare Finland to any other nation, as every nation has its own circumstances and paradigms. There is never such a thing as 'free.'

Finland kicked off the New Year by rolling out a groundbreaking trial that will give some of its citizens a universal basic income, in a bid to reduce poverty and increase employment.

What? You mean Finland needs to reduce poverty and increase employment? Why is that? They are a more prosperous country than the USA. According to Bernie Sanders "In Finland, Sanders said, the public education system is the strongest in the world." He claims Finland is a Democratic Socialist country (which it actually isn't) and that we should model America after them!

I suppose if he had been elected president (thank God he isn't) he'd be recommending something like giving nearly $600 a Month for years to jobless citizens, no questions asked.

If I was one of those Finland citizens I would live anywhere I could find a free roof to sleep under, get food and clothing from food pantries or churches and spend as little as possible saving all the payments - after 2 years I'd have 10,000 plus dollars saved and could hope they make the program permanent.
