   Smart and ugly or dumb but attractive? What would you choose and why?

   Neither.  This is stereotypical,limited thinking.   I choose to be BOTH......attractive & fiercely intelligent.   Why not be attractive & intelligent?  Such components do exist.  Why do people believe that there are old paradigms in terms of characterizations?   There are attractive, even beautiful people who are highly intelligent while there are homely, even ugly people who are dumb to abysmally stupid.

   Pretty is fleeting, but stupid is forever. I could only ever love someone who was smart. What package they come in is irrelevant.

   Choose in what context?  As a spouse or date?  I'd say smart and ugly, because "ugly" is very subjective.  I've found many people attractive who wouldn't be considered conventionally physically attractive, but if I like someone's personality and sense of humour I find it really easy to see the good in their physical appearance, too.
   
   As a friend?  Again, smart and ugly.  I have never and will never care what my friends look like. 
   
   For myself?  ...smart and ugly for the win again!  I'd rather have a well-paying job that I landed with my intelligence than a shallow job that I landed based on appearance.  I'd rather find a mate and friends based on my personality/intelligence, I'd know that they were with me/liked me for me and not because of what I look like.

   Looks like you're insisting we MUST choose one or the other.... Hopefully you have a sensible reason for this, because the vast majority would more than likely want BOTH intelligence and attractiveness....in themselves as well as a partner.............BUT.
   IMHO, nothing is worse than being stupid.  Being smart, aware, sensible and talented will create a much happier, healthier life.  Your personality will be in good shape and abilities to earn a hefty paycheck are increased......while "beauty" may get you the job, it sure won't help you keep it!
   At 2 different periods in my life, I dated 2 men who by most standards would not be considered very handsome.  I saw them as very attractive because:  They were good-hearted, had a fabulous sense of humor, loved their families, (animals and children too)& treated them all with kindness & respect...and were exceptionally talented in terms of creativity.
   So, there you have it.  My opinion.

   I don't believe in "extremes" most people are not all (one thing).
   You can be good looking and smart or unattractive and not very smart, rich and generous, old but immature, or poor and selfish.
   It's human nature to (want to be around) attractive people/things or what we deem to be our "best option" in a given situation.
   Both "ugly" and "dumb" are usually acquired tastes over time!
   Ultimately all these traits are "in the eye of the beholder"  and not necessarily a fact.
   What (you) might find ugly/attractive or smart/dumb may not be what others believe. Compatibility tends to be the driving force.

   Without intelligence, beauty is nothing. If you can't hold an intellectual conversation, it doesn't matter if you're America's Next Top Model, male or female, right to the curb. I can't tolerate stupidity.

   I won't choose either, dumb girl is way too much of a burden and ugly girl it is kind of hard to get hard with her.
   
   It really come down to how ugly and smart is the smart and ugly girl and how dumb and beautiful is the dumb and beautiful girl. If the dumb and beautiful girl is just slightly dumb, I for sure would pick the attractive one. If the ugly girl is just lower average, that is an acceptable option, if the hot girl is too dumb.
   
   U also need to consider who is nicer and a better person. If the ugly but smart girl is a horrible person, I will for certain pick the attractive but dumb girl (just think of it as, u got a chance to play a knight in shinning armor protecting a damsel in distress, it would make her dumbness that much more toleratable with this ego boost.)
   
   Although in my experience, girls who are smarter and nicer are usually also more attractive then those who are dumber and not so good as a person, but not always the case. A lot of time it is to do with life style, dumb people and people who are not so nice are more likely to have life style that would be more damaging to their body, which as a result, make them get uglier (eg Lindzy Lohan use to be really hot, but due to all of her out of control party, she is significantly much less attractive now) Also, girls who are smart and well educated have more substance and that will usually make a girl seem more attractive, for example Natalie Portman got a PhD in philosophy and is now a full time university lecture and is only a part time actress, even so, she seem even more attractive now than before. Emma Watson went to harvard university, despite she does not look as attractive as back in the day when she was on Harry Potter, she does not see any less desirable (well, until u saw her accidentally leaked sex tape, after that it is like "Whatever, seen that girl doing it already" I accidentally came across the sex tape online. Poor Emma she must be so unhappy about becoming an accident porn star, she should really sue whoever put it online first.)

    Since it has to be one of the two, I would choose (infact I have chosen) dumb and attractive. I guess its better to appreciate the beauty/attractiveness while it lasts and try n nullify or improve the dumbness, if possible.
    Being ugly and probably not so smart myself, attractiveness or a pretty face atleast would be a fair bit of incentive as well as motivation for me and as it is I hate being a hypocrite, saying things I least believe in. There is no high moral ground in personal life choices!!

    That's a tough question. The reality is that being ugly is downright painful for some folks, especially if they are wanting to date, make friends and fit-in.
    
    Ugly kids get bullied, and unless they somehow develop super-confidence as a child (which is not terribly common), they go through life feeling vaguely discouraged, at best and very lonely in worse case scenarios.
    
    So although it is politically correct to choose ugly and intelligent, I'm going to go with the dumb thing, even if only to be obstinate.
    Frankly, I don't think there is anything worse than a highly intelligent person who looks down on those who are not particularly smart. Better to be a kind beauty than an ugly jerk.
