This is really a very interesting and innovative question.
I would like to advice the newborn to keep a glorious, delightful smile on his/her face always. A smile of a newborn can enlighten the world. I would advice the infant to live his/her childhood with contentment and merriment . Because the childhood days are the best days of life devoid of complications, hardships, torment and agony. It is the best time to be pampered by everyone. So I would advice the child to enjoy his/her immature , happy days up to the fullest. Other things would automatically follow.

A newborn can't comprehend advice. The only things I could do and have done is provide them with clean diapers, fresh bottles and all the cuddles and love they need to grow. As they grow the advice starts. It's different for their age. With a newborn it's about what you do not what you have to say. It's how you hold them, carry them and the over all care you give them.

The advise would totally be about love and respect.
To whom ? First to your parents in charge of  your little life.
And the most important person who caused your parents existence
Has the power and ability to keep you living out of 1 and 4 trillion possibilities you are rare .
But that certainly makes the one who created your possibility Awe inspiring !
Always remember and respect the gift of life and who gave it.

I would advice him to live and breathe; not just survive or respire. the life ahead is yours_ you are the one who's gonna live it! so never be afraid of adding colors to your life. and one thing you need to remember.. although it is your life but there are people and relations that are associated with it you need to care about. Once you understand life you will have a good living smile

I always say that we can only start from where we are. That's just logical. God forbid that I should start again, but I would start with Love and remain with Love in its myriad manifestations.

One cool thing is to chant softly to the child. Do Aum, the mother of all mantras. Soft short A and a gradually long UM. Repeat a few times. Sound and silence will be very useful to the child. Sing, play music. Hug to encourage bonding, but not too much. It can spoil them when they grow up.

If you are home for at least two years post birth, or the mother is there, then that's awesome, but one year is great too. My view is that six months is too short.

What you do will be very practical: make the child laugh; make faces, jingle bells, make childlike playful sounds ... you're asking about giving advice but they can't talk or understand the human ways at this stage. Use their way. I would ask the parents not to shake or allow others to. A gentle bit of play is cool, but no hard stuff. Krishna's blessings bro. You got one?

Note: God is always first followed by parents, but this does not mean anything esoteric or a man in the sky. From as early as 18 months you can start teaching them to relate to the sweet feeling inside them; read loving books. Hindu bookshops are full of sweet and charming children stories with pictures.

There is a very small pictoral book sold by Hay House on the net. It's called, I Am, by DR Wayne Dyer. So beautifully written for kids!
