I'm sure this question has been posted and answered in the HubPages community forums. I can't seem to find it. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
How does one go about using Google Analytics?
Hi!, Daniel, I am using it at the moment and it tells me how many people are reading my articles, how many views I get and how many referrals I have. I don't understand some of the terms like bounce rate but I suppose I could google them and find out. Why don't you try it.
Bounce rate is really about worthless on HubPages. Basically, it's the percentage of people who "bounce" to a different page within your site. In other words, how long they stay on your site and how many pages they visit; how engaging is the site.
Content sites usually have a 40-60% bounce rate, but that's tracked more through HP than individual authors. I don't pay attention to it for HubPages.
Daniel, my sympathies. I gave up trying to make any sense out of "Bounce rates" "Active views" and "Ad sessions." I just write and if a high symbiotic crumble tiddlypoo score is the result so be it. If you find a very simplified explanation for folks of our vintage (apologies for the ageism) about what all the mumbo jumbo means I would like to hear of it, although I probably still wouldn't be any the wiser.
Good luck with your quest.
I am not sure if you are asking how to get started using the program or how to use it to improve your page views here. Can you clarify?
I don't know how my question got around to the issue of 'bounce rate' when this was not what I was asking about.
I'm trying to learn how to use Google Analytics. I need help on how to even get into its site. When I log in to my Google account there is nowhere I can see where it points me to Google Analytics.
My question is two-fold:
1. Where do I go to enroll or register my HubPages account with Google Analytics?
2. Should I register each and every article I've written or is there only one HP account I need to register?
I think these responses are because people did not understand the question.
If you just want to register your HP articles on analytics, I assume you already have an account. Open it and find your analytics tracking id. Take that number and add it to your account/earnings page in the section "Reporting Settings". You just click on "configure" and it will tell you how to add that number so that every article you write on HP, those you have written and those yet to be written, will be added to your analytics account.
I dont remember how to find that number under analytics but there is a help bar in the upper left hand corner.
I'm back again with the same issue of Google Analytics. I just noticed that the Google Analytics tracking code that I have was for my old website that is no longer active. The Google Analytics account I have is for that website. How do I make a new registration and get a new tracking code for my HubPages? Can anybody send me a URL address of Google Analytics where I can do this?
You can use your google analytics account for up to 100 sites. I had mine set up for my old dog training site that I no longer use, but I still used that number for my HP tracking code. (Even if you end up with 100s of articles here it still only counts as one since it is just the site.) I do not think you need a new tracking code.

Thanks so much DrMark1961. I finally got in to the site I was looking for. I see that I already have an account for HubPages. Please bear with me with some more questions with respect to filling out the Property Settings page of GA:
1. Is the property name my full name? or is it HubPages?
2. What is my default URL?
3. What should I put in 'Industry Category' when I have several hubs that are in different industries and categories?
4. Under 'Advanced Settings' should I check the square?
5. Under 'Property Hit Volume' I see the following:
Last day: No hits
Last 7 Days: No hits
Last 30 Days: 43 hits
How come there are no hits in the first two lines?
I really appreciate all your help.
I am not sure I can be of much help. I set my account up about 10 years ago so I do not remember a lot of that. I do know "property" is the web site, not the person, so you should enter hubpages.com.
Of all the people here, I think lobobrandon has the best idea on how these things work. You could try emailing your questions to him and he helps a lot so will get back to you when he can. (Send an email by going to his profile page.)
As far as property hit volume, those numbers are always different than what HP reports. I choose to follow the HP numbers for page views, and usually ignore that information that Google provides about that.

Hi, I'm relatively new to Hubpages and just recently got myself signed up to Google Analytics. Can anyone explain what 'bounce rate ' means, and how to improve it?Also - I have quite a few page views with 0.00 secs, what is that about? I can understand if someone navigates away if my hub wasn't...

I don't understand something. If the average time people spend on an article is 4.5 minutes, how can the bounce rate be 90%? Doesn't 'bounce' mean that they just go on the site for a split second and then go off?

I have a bounce rate of 72.94% as per Google Analytics reports. What can I do to correct this?

and only like 8 views in past 10 days. I have been checking it like crazy since yesterday and it always says no active viewers. I don't think it's indexed correctly. I'm pretty sure I have had a bug in it for a long time.

Have something to do with hitting the GO BACK button rather than clicking a link or ad in a HUB?
