Pinterest Traffic

   I could be the last person alive in the dark on this but in case I’m not:
   
   I just found out you can add hashtags to your pins on Pinterest, so last night I did a little experiment. I pinned all my articles to a Pinterest board and made a little portfolio. Then I hashtagged a few of the pins. Overnight I had double and triple the impressions on my pins that had hashtags. Obviously overnight isn’t long about to draw any serious conclusions but I was pleasantly surprised!
   
   Wanted to share in case anyone else uses Pinterest for getting traffic to their hubs.

      I've pinned all my articles to various boards, but I don't think I've ever tried putting hashtags on them (I'm not used to using Hashtags, and barely remember on Twitter/Facebook).
      
      Did you throw all the article pins in a single board, or create different boards based on topic?

         I pin them to relevant boards I already have and apply to join group boards on PinGroupie and pin them there.

               Do it! It’s really helped me! I’m near 20k monthly viewers on Pinterest and I think that may be partially why.

                  I spent a couple hours this morning going through organizing all my boards, and adding hashtags to the ones for my posts here, and on one of my niche sites.
                  
                  It said I have 9k average views on Pinterest right now. I'll keep tabs on it and see where it goes.

      Pinterest isn't something I use all that often to be honest, though I have an account and have put some of my hubs on there.  It's something I need to be more active in I think as it is useful.

         I think it’s a much easier way to get traffic than trying to fight your way to the top of the Google pile.

   You're not the last person to find out about this, because it's news to me as well. I have never had much luck drawing traffic via Pinterest so maybe this idea will provide a boost.
   
   I suck at coming up with hashtags though. I never know which words/phrases to use. Haha.
   
   Thanks for the tip, either way. I will try to experiment with this over the weekend.

      8 weeks after I posted the above, I've been adding hash tags to my HubPage "pins" on Pinterest and it has had absolutely no effect. (I *told* you I suck at this. Haha.)
      
      I give up. Either I'm too dumb to get how this works, or Pinners just aren't looking for the kinds of stuff I'm pinning. (shrugs)
      
      I will continue to use Pinterest for saving/collecting pix of record album covers, old comic books, vintage ads, and other cool junk for my own amusement, but I'm done trying to make it work as a promotional tool.

         After reading that article about hashtags, I went through almost all of my articles and repinned them using the hashtags.
         It made no difference to my Pinterest traffic. So no, it is definitely not your fault.

   Interesting, thanks for sharing. I was just beginning to look into Pinterest (began this weekend) as I do get a lot of traffic from there. Did not know they use hash tags.

   You're not the only one. I'm sure I would benefit from adding a hashtag to my pins. The only problem is I haven't the faintest idea what one is or how you create them. Do you use knitting needles or is a pick ax better?

   I add hashtags all the time. Not sure whether it makes any difference though compared to just using extra keywords.in the description. If you type some keywords, hashtags are auto-suggested which helps with coming up with ideas.

   SusanaS wrote a comprehensive article about Pinterest traffic, about three months ago, which referred to the use of hashtags. She has done amazingly well with it. You can read the article here:

   Pinterest did a complete revamp of their program about a year ago. I watched a tutorial from them at that time. Also important to note is that "giraffe pins" those over 900 pixels in length are out as well.
