Writing and Niche Sites

   Hello!
   
   I've been writing in HubPages ever since I joined last August, 2019. Almost everything has been going smoothly, I guess. I have some featured hubs an overall 30,000 views (adding up all the views my articles get) and most of them are transferred to niche sites. Though, I still have a lot to learn to be honest.
   
   I do have one question, though: is it still necessary to have your own niche in writing? Or is it a thing of the past? I just like writing whatever I idea I have and hope for the best.
   
   And if it is really "that" important to have a niche, what are the benefits of it?

      No, I don't think it's that important to write about one topic. Your articles are usually found via Google, so few readers take the trouble to go through your profile. They are more likely to hop around related articles they see linked to on the page.
      
      Having said that, after many years, I have found myself writing in niche topics. It was a natural progression for me.

   As Bev says, you do not need to stick to a niche. The only benefit of sticking to a niche or having multiple related articles in a number of niches is the fact that you can interlink among them. This helps them rank better and you, therefore, get more search engine traffic in return. It's not a huge boost in rankings, but it does help your articles get to the first page, provided everything else is done well.

         At some point, I will request you to teach me about SEO, you seem well versed in that department . For now, I'm focusing on improving my writing. I have a similar challenge with niches because I tend to enjoy writing about different topics. I feel that restricting myself to a niche am comfortable with restricts my progress as a writer.

            There is no point in restricting yourself to a niche on HubPages.
            
            If you are writing on your own blog or website, it is absolutely essential to stick to one niche, because Google likes blogs and websites that specialise in one topic.
            
            On HubPages, Google does not even see all your Hubs in one place.  You can see them all together on your account page, but Google can't see that. Google just sees that the niche sites each concentrate on one niche.  So provided your Hubs are being accepted to the niche sites, you are fine.
            
            The only benefit of sticking to one niche, as Lobobrandon mentioned, is the opportunity to interlink them.

            I actually just learned a thing or two about SEO because of one of @lobobrandon's article. It was an article about a writing system in our country, and since it's not "that" being searched (but people are still looking for it) it became one of my most successful articles. Out of 34,000 views I have now, I at least owe 60%-70% to that article.

               That's cool I'm not sure which hub this is, but if you could write some new hubs around it and add links to your new related hubs from this hub, at least some of the traffic would flow through. Links from those new hubs back to this main hub would help it rank even better as well.

            I have a hub on my profile on HubPages on-page SEO for 2018, it does not really need to be updated. I tried to include tests from my account in there so you may find references to my hubs (some of those hubs may have been edited since).

   TomSands, I think you should get help with off-page SEO because this is not how you build backlinks. There's no shame in seeking help.
