   Trump wrote a book about the power of positive thinking. This fact tells you a lot about his mindset.
   
   He was elected after two terms of President Barack Obama. 
   Recently, Trump said he wouldn't be where he is now if it hadn't been for Obama.
   
   He wanted to help the country. What else? And people believed he could.
   
   Yet, for the DNC, B ernie S anders proclaimed, "Under this administration, authoritarianism has taken root in our country."
   
   
   How so?  pray tell?

      Could say that about every single administration to ever take office. Considering the government is an authoritarian figure to begin with, the statement is simply meant to offer connotations to the listener that then travel through the conduits of your mind and produce a reaction. Basically, by even discussing such banal and vague wording you are doing a disservice, perhaps even listening to the banal and vague wording to begin with is the problem at its core.
      
      If the government continues to stand, authoritarianism continues to stand, and a new authority will enter that system and establish their own idea of what authoritarianism should be each and every go around.
      
      I fail to see the problem here. They all suck as individuals, on a case by case basis.

         If the individual understands the basis of our constitution and upholds it as the founding fathers envisioned, it doesn't matter if he sucks on the basis of  hipness and coolness. Understanding and upholding The Constitution of the US of America is the important thing. The Constitution protects against any sort of authoritarianism.

            No, it protects against what we believed to be injustice and tyranny at the time, and have since amended it over and over by way of authoritarian systems. Oh, and we uphold it using authoritarian systems as well. It was a document to establish authority, so that people who would seek to abuse authority could not.
            
            Trump is authoritarian, by his very position in the government, let alone his, "no nonsense," style in business and diction anyways.
            
            The statement is accurate, and could be made about most any public figure in a position of authority and power. The important part is how it is interpreted.

               Have you ever read our constitution? Do you know the limits placed upon the executive branch?
               The primary job of the president is commander-in-chief. He/she is to protect the country, primarily.
               
               The founders were leery of the power at the top/government ... at ANY TIME.
               
               If you could provide examples of those "authoritative systems" which have been used to amend and uphold the constitution, it would be most revealing.

                  An authoritarian document that establishes limitations on the authority whom it governs, its a wonderful idea. I'm not arguing with you here.
                  
                  All I'm saying is you're choosing to misinterpret an accurate statement, and falling into the traps of semantics and connotations that are regularly used to goad the gullible into visceral reactions.
                  
                  Trump uses this same tactic that they are using, regularly. Such as his statement, "When the looting starts, the shooting starts!" comment, which was previously well-known to be a racially charged statement despite its relatively harmless, literal meaning. 
                  
                  Play into their hands if you want, or realize they are trying to rally their base and piss of their opponents, and move on with your day.

                     No, he did not know its historical use. He meant we need to stop the looting. Period.
                     
                     And the fact that the looting and the violence continues is due to the fact that no one agreed to do something about the violence. And he tried to send in federal help. When it was rejected they complied. Still there are deaths, injuries and blindness due to lawlessness.

                        If he didn't know that then I'd have to question his competency as the POTUS, and also how he landed on that word choice so specifically to begin with. Trump is authoritarian by definition of his position, if that upsets you then perhaps you should not take part in American politics and business.

      I don't see it so. That could be figment of the imagination.              The America federal constitution is the all authoritarian thing. Otherwise, Trump could not face impeachment.

   People want him to be perfect. He is not. But he has good intentions for the American people/citizens to prosper and thrive of their own efforts and self-guided free will. Take away high taxation and over burdensome regulations ... and presto!
   Get it?

   Good intentions for his base only. 
   
   And good intentions won't read his daily presidential briefings that alert a president of dangers to our country - which Trump ignores.  Good intentions didn't help our country as Trump waited until the virus already arrived here before downplaying its dangers that led to 170,000 dead Americans and an economy in shambles.  His good intentions that halted a testing policy that could have helped blue states, or him stopping FEMA aid to California because they did not support him. 
   
   No, he is not a fine president.  He is a functional illiterate that tries to paint everything as positive instead of just being honest.  He lacks the education to be able to understand the pandemic, while promoting false cures such as disinfectant and hydroxychloroquine.

               I did not not know that. He wrote Candide and other philosophical stories.
               ... as you did. ( Your philosophical stories, the ones you regret you did not publish as you had promised, which I contributed to, so thanks for nothing.) He was born in 1694 and wrote until his 80s, when most people died in their 40s. His wit exposed the ridiculousness of commonly held narratives of the day.
