Google December Core Update Lanched - Spike in Traffic

   I noticed a 40% increase in traffic for Friday compared to last week.
   Anyone else seeing increases?

   Yesterday was probably the biggest Friday (usually my slowest day) that I've ever seen.  As you say, something like up 40%.

   Nothing like 40 percent, but back to where it was a year ago. Although it should be given that I've posted more than 100 new articles in 2020, and not one of them about rutabagas.

   I think maybe an inconsequential uptick for me but still low on the traffic. I've lost a lot of interest in all of this, pop in once in awhile to see what's happening but it's always just to see how low my traffic still is.

   Unfortunately revenue is still the same, with CPM falling as traffic rose. The extra impressions must have been on low value ads.

   I should qualify my earlier posting. I did not mean to give the impression I was raking in a fortune. While my revenue has gone up I still struggle to cross the $50 threshold each month. The stuff I write does not set the internet on fire; it's mostly history and quirky material. It's purely self-indulgent writing; if it interests me I'll write about it.

   I had an uptick since Friday. Hardly 40 % but still very welcomed.
   
   CPM has also been good since last Monday. Nowhere near the likes of last Christmas, but again, still very welcomed.

   Hard to put it in numbers, but I do see an incrase. Compared to last year my traffic needs to be going down as we get closer to the end of the year, but it picked up a bit and is on early November numbers.

      My traffic and CPM are both higher than this time last year but I was attributing that to having published about 100 new articles this year.

         Check your stats. I would be surprised if any of your 2020 articles are even among your top 20%, which is where most of the income comes from.
         Most of mine only start earning well after about a year or more.

            Surprsingly, a few of them are.  But I also wrote about 75 new articles in 2019 that are finally finding their footing.  Like you, my articles usually take about a year to begin to attract traffic.

               I checked mine after I read that comment and found one from Jan 2020 near the bottom of the 20%, so it is not an absolute but I think it is usually true. I am glad to hear that you have a few from 2020 up there in the rankings!

         I wrote quite a few (7 this year and that is a big percentage of my total number) and some of them are adding to the traffic and two are in the 20% as DrMark put it.
         
         I definitely have more traffic than last year and CPMs are higher as well, but I would not associate increased CPM with increased traffic, as the CPM is per 1000 views anyway.
         
         I compared my stats with last year and last year I had a steady decline until the end of the year, but this December I had an uptick and the numbers are back to November levels if that makes sense, i.e. the steady decline has stopped momentarily.

            Sorry, I didn't mean to associate higher CPMs with increased traffic.  I know that one has nothing to do with the other.  I was responding to Eugbug's observation that for him, CPM rose as traffic fell.
            
            My traffic is declining as usual for me at this time of year but the increased traffic and higher CPMs compared to last year means that I am making more money than at this time last year.

    You are quite right DrMark. I had not noticed that most of my top 20 or 30 are from earlier than 2020. A couple of this year's crop have made it onto the hit parade. I'm at a loss to explain why.

       I noticed that even when I write an article that gets number one on Google (or the featured snippet) it still does not get that much traffic until it has been around a while. I think it is due to backlinks, people posting the link to the article on their own website. I could be wrong but that is my impression.

    Could someone check if Exemplore has been Google-slapped? My articles that used to be in the top three results are now relegated to page three.

       Not based on what I see on SEMRush, but it has been crashing steadily for a long time. The attached image is from Semrush. Notice how the top 3 rankings are decreasing.
       
       I must say that SEMrush and other keyword tracking tools do not get 100% of the search phrases as a huge chunk of search terms on Google are things that Google has never seen before. So this number may not reflect the actual numbers, but the trend almost always is true from my experience.

    Now that you mentioned it, there was a Google Update article that I had stumbled upon days ago that I did not read because I was busy with something. After that, my views gets around 30%-50% increase a day, which is a shocker for me (but glad, otherwise). My CPM, however, is still a little volatile. It goes up and then down and then up that it just left me scratching my head.
