CARRIZO SPRINGS, Tex. — Dozens of migrant children boarded vans this week for the trip down a road to a former camp that was used by oil field workers. This is the first migrant child facility opened under the Biden administration as an emergency facility,
a vestige of the Trump administration that was open for one month in summer 2019 — is now being reactivated to hold up to 700 children ages 13 to 17.
The Biden administration says the camp is needed because facilities for migrant children have had to cut capacity by nearly half because of the coronavirus pandemic.
At the same time, the number of unaccompanied children crossing the border has been going up drastically, in January reporting the highest total — more than 5,700 apprehensions at the border.
Immigration lawyers and advocates question why the Biden administration would choose to reopen a Trump-era facility that was the source of protests and controversy. From the “tent city” in Tornillo, Tex., to a sprawling for-profit facility in Homestead, Fla., emergency shelters have been criticized by advocates for immigrants, lawyers, and human rights activists over their conditions, cost, and lack of transparency in their operations.
During the campaign, Biden pledged loudly to undo former President Donald Trump’s hard-line immigration policies. And he claimed he would never house children in "cages". Loudly complaining about the 500 children that are in limbo due to the Government unable to find the parents. The children Biden is now responsible for have traveled across the border without parents. At this point, almost 6,000 unaccompanied children need housing, and parents that the Government will need to be located in other countries...
In Biden's first weeks in office, he signed several executive orders reversing many immigration policies. Last week, he and House Democrats introduced a plan that would provide a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants. The administration also reversed some of Trump’s expulsion practices by accepting unaccompanied children into the country, these changes appear to contribute to an increase of minors streaming across our borders, and now need to be housed in facilities, with no clear answers of how the Government will be able to care for these minors. It appears many adults have made the choice to have their children come in alone, due to Trump's old policies of separating families. It would appear we now have an added 5,700 children living in border facilities without parents. Certainly under different circumstances. But nonetheless now living in the facilities Biden claimed were "cages" away from their parents. What will the numbers be by the end of February? Biden's plan also is to bring in 70,000 immigrates that have been living in Mexico as they waited for their asylum hearings., and a large caravan making its way across Mexico. The Biden administration has claimed as of today they will make an attempt to put children with "families'.
Any thoughts on this ever-growing problem?

Biden's Immigration Problems Are Growing Daily --- Feb, 27th, "Customs and Border Protection officials are bracing for as many as 13,000 unaccompanied children crossing into the U.S. in May, according to a report.
"We’re seeing the highest February numbers that we’ve ever seen in the history of the [Unaccompanied Alien Child] program," a Health and Human Services official told Axios.
The record surge of migrant kids will require a continued expansion of the country’s network of migrant-child shelters, where capacity has already been reduced due to coronavirus social-distancing protocols, the report said."
"The Biden administration came under fire this week for reopening some of the same border facilities that President Donald Trump had been criticized for using by many Democrats, including President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris."
Where in the world is the Biden Administration going to house all these children? His dog-whistle invitation may just be what has thousands heading to our borders, many parents even choosing to send their children across alone. The is one hell of a problem.

It's not a problem at all...to those wishing an open border and tens of millions of additional mouths for Americans to feed and support.
But it seems to me that unaccompanied children would have a much harder time crossing the border wall that Trump started and liberals hated.
Yes, there are some American's that feel open borders would not be a problem. I am not one of them. I think we should on merit, where migrants are selected on the basis of their nominated occupation, age, skills, qualifications. Actually, this is how most countries handle immigration. I also think asylum should be given to those that can prove they are in some form of danger if they remain in their country.
I was disappointed to hear the wall would not be finished. It was working as a deterrent America's immigration problems are of our own making.
I haven't seen much on how well the wall is working, but what little I have seen indicates that very few are making their way through, under or over it. Proven effective, then, but is still canceled in favor of bringing in more illegals.
Yes, I agree that we don't need more unskilled, unschooled people that can't support themselves here without help. We can use people that have the skills to contribute, though, at least to some extent. Asylum; a thorny issue as every one of them will claim they will die if left in their own country.
And the upcoming unaccompanied children numbers for Feb are said to be historical. So, add 13,000 more to the already 7,000.. all children that will need care, and most likely very long-term housing. The Government is having a hard time placing the children with foster-type care.

In regard to the wall it was working well in the sections it was built ---
"EFFECTIVE – DISRUPTING CRIMINALS AND SMUGGLERS
The results speak for themselves: illegal drug, border crossings, and human smuggling activities have decreased in areas where barriers are deployed. For example:
San Diego Sector: --- In one short 12 mile section in the San Diego Sector, the wall reduced CBP manpower requirements by 150 agents every 24 hours. That is approximately a $28 million return on investment per year in salaries and benefits. These agents were redeployed to fill resource gaps in other areas of the border -- further improving our security.
CBP’s San Diego Field Office continues to be a significant source of narcotics seizures. From FY 19 to FY 20, seizures of fentanyl, marijuana, and methamphetamine all increased, with meth seizures jumping at alarming rates in the past several years – demonstrating that the border wall is forcing drug smugglers to where we are best prepared to catch them – our ports of entry.
Yuma Sector: --- Illegal entries in areas with new border wall system plummeted over 87% in FY 20 compared to FY 19.
In FY 19, CBP deployed a temporary barrier, which it has replaced with a permanent system, at the Sanchez Canal, which resulted in illegal entries decreasing in this area by more than 1,000 per month.
In FY 19, in areas of older existing border fencing or barriers, Yuma Sector apprehended 12 large groups (over a 100 persons) compared to zero large groups in FY 20 with new border wall system.
Family Unit entries have decreased over 95%
FY 19: 51,961 vs. FY 20: 2,940
RGV Sector: ---- In a section of RGV (Zone 1) apprehensions have decreased since the construction of the border wall system. This is a location that has never had any border infrastructure.
CBP has seen 79% decrease in apprehensions in this area (Zone 1) since the completion of border wall system.
CBP has seen a 26% decrease in narcotics seizures since the completion of border wall system in this area.
In another section of RGV, prior to construction of the border wall system it was common to see illegal aliens running across a heavily traveled road, putting themselves and members of the community at risk.
Smugglers are now forced to take their groups further west into areas that are less dense with brush and easier for CBP surveillance cameras to detect illicit activity.
El Paso Sector: --- El Paso Sector has experienced a significant reduction in drug and smuggling activities in areas where the new border wall system was built.
Most notably, in Zones 14 and 15 of the Santa Teresa (STN) AOR where apprehensions have decreased by 60% and 81% respectively when comparing the last half of fiscal year FY 20 to the first half of FY 20.
El Paso Station has experienced similar results from the new border wall in Zones 20 – 23, with a reduction in apprehensions of 70% during the same timeframe."

With results like these it kind of puts the lie to the idea that the wall is useless, that it is easy to go through any wall we build.
One has to wonder, then, just why we aren't building more.
Why? It's not Obama's policy.. LOL
We are back to his policies 100% What a mess. And the media --- pretty much crickets.
Biden also has with the stork of a pen done away with migrants waiting in Mexico for their asylum hearings. There are 70,000 that have been waiting in Mexico and are now being ushered in at 300 per day. All through the stroke of a pen.

Oh well. After all, the US has unlimited funding to support them, unlimited jobs for them to work at and unlimited space to house them.
I would predict Biden will need to build many more Processing centers as well as long-term centers. They have run out of room already, due to historic numbers of children making their way over our border. Evidenced by the need to open Trump's soft-walled long-term center inTexas. We will shortly have 13,000 more children to house.
Biden's dog whistles in regard to the path to citizenship and very liberal new immigration policies have truly encouraged people to send their children across the border. IMO he is a destroyer, a danger to the country.
I have been following the other thread that is discussing this subject. It would seem many do not understand, the processing centers that they are calling cages" are meant to be short-term until the person is processed, given a medical exam, etc... The migrant has then moved along to a long-term center. One is only supposed to be there for 72 hours. Many adults do stay longer due to long-term centers and accommodations being overcrowded. Children are moved quickly. The long-term centers have been monitored, and are accessed for safety, cleanliness, and comfort.
No one wants anyone kept in cages, and the Trump administration actually works to solve problems of overcrowding, and closed centers to be renovated.
We are going backward quickly in many respects.
Yes, asylum and a "normal" immigration policy is definitely a good option. It's crazy that those kids are in the position they are, irrespective of the President. At least he says it is a temporary measure, let's see.
That's simply a lot of unaccompanied children to care for much less it being a growing problem. The bell-weather is that the bulk are coming from Central America as is adults and families. It has been a growing problem since Obama days. Obviously the main issue is they are minors restricting how they can be handled.
Shooting from the hip Biden is now saddled with costly decisions and amnesty won't solve it since they are minors. They will still have to be placed with sponsors while staying for who knows how long in shelters. And, doing so they will have to meet Covid restrictions hampering existing facilities. Where are more shelters going to come from?
How unaccompanied illegal alien children are processed
“We’re seeing the highest February numbers that we’ve ever seen in the history of the [Unaccompanied Alien Child] program,” a Health and Human Services official told Axios." 13,000 expected to be the number for Feb... That could have the US caring for 20,000 unaccompanied children that came across our border in two months.
This is a historical number, and one can see this problem that is enormous. Can't imagine how these children will be housed. Guess many new centers will be built. Wonder where all this cash will come from to care and build care facilities? What a historical mess... Biden should have left Trump's policies in place, and finished the wall. We are back to catch and release, and now thousands of children being dropped at the border. And the media --- crickets
https://nypost.com/2021/02/26/surge-of- … ed-in-may/
Thank Joe ... U.S. detained nearly 100,000 migrants at the Mexico border in February, and 78,000 in Jan.. But the Biden administration claims -- no problem. Hey, catch and release worked for Obama, and it will for Joe.
As a taxpayer, I do not want to pay for this kind of stupidity. Time to finish the wall, reinstate stopping immigrants in Mexico, and make sure asylum claims are legitimate.
