These two headlines do seem to make the state of New York a bit hypocritical.
“New York governor declares racism 'public health emergency' amid new anti-discrimination legislation
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared racism a "public health crisis," signing an entire package of legislation Dec. 23 aimed at addressing discrimination and racial injustice in the state.”
“New York says it will prioritize non-White people in distributing low supply of COVID-19 treatments
The state of New York said it will prioritize non-White people in the distribution of COVID-19 treatments in short supply.
New York’s Department of Health released a document detailing its plan to distribute the treatments, such as monoclonal antibody treatment and antiviral pills.
The plan includes a section on eligibility for the scarce antiviral pills that people must meet to receive the treatment, including a line stating a person needs to have "a medical condition or other factors that increase their risk for severe illness."
It is amazing how fact can stifle comment. So much of what is controversy can be eliminated by a little bit of research. Thank you for posting this comment about New York politics.
No system is perfect. Perfection is for another world. But the United States absolutely shines in our world. It is so easy to prove that it is futile to argue. I suggest that victims do a little research on the Internet or wherever they choose.
The United States will prosper regardless of its retractors. Let us hope that a majority of its citizens will still read.
Happy 2022. The world is your oyster.
I no longer pay attention to this stuff. Anyone who can get away with claiming victimization will. The irony is that no other country has done more for ethnic minorities/non-White or white than the United States.
I bet Kathy Hochul can find an ant-viral treatment. She knows how to get votes.
Bias is becoming a word that nobody pays attention to. Our New Year's resolution should be to ignore race "news" and focus on building a stronger America.
Folks don't get turned away from hospitals if they have COVID. The only reason might be if there is no room - but then they put up temporary shelters.
Does anyone doubt that billions of dollars have been spent treating patients who cannot pay for treatment? Find that fairness somewhere else on the planet. Good luck.
Yes. Absolutely Hypocrites. I guess all those trailer park white trash need no help. Or, they can get help after their betters are helped.
I wonder if they even realize what they look like when they make such statements. I guess, they don't really care.
They look like politicians buying black votes. And getting them, too.
I left NY many years ago, it was a state that pandered to the illegal immigrant and minority class even then.
It is a State built for two classes... the very rich and the poor.
How it is run is not sustainable, which is one of the reasons why NY and CA are so upset by the changes to the Tax laws made by Trump:
The state and local tax (SALT) deduction allows taxpayers of high-tax states to deduct local tax payments on their federal tax returns. The tax plan signed by President Trump in 2017, called the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, instituted a cap on the SALT deduction. Starting with the 2018 tax year, the maximum SALT deduction available was $10,000. Previously, there was no limit. Lets take a closer look at what the reduced deduction has meant for residents of high-tax states like California, New York and New Jersey.
This meant that their extreme taxation could not be deducted by the Rich and reimbursed by the Federal Gov. so... in essence... the taxes the State demand they pay were actually taxes they now had to pay.
And so... MILLIONS of millionaires fled states like NY, NJ, CA to flee their repressive and excessive taxation.
States like NY and CA need to collapse... all their free handouts and Welfare and Retirements need to be expunged in order to create a common sense economic policy.
States like NY allow teachers and police to retire and collect a full pension, while still being able to take up a new job, within the State.
These pensions pay almost a full salary, and these "retirees" go and pick up another full time job. There are few systems as corrupt as you will find in NY whether that be the Teachers Union or the Carpenters Union or the Police Union.
More money from State school taxes in NY goes to Pensions than to the schools themselves:
Jan 27, 2020 · Overall, 3,800 educators in New York got more than $100,000 a year in pensions in 2019, according to the data obtained from the state Teachers Retirement System
Those that help support and enable State governments like NY deserve all the misery they get, and more.

Do you have the same attitude about civil service or military retirees who have the same options as these state employees?
Federal is different than state.
State pensions that pay 100k, and then those same school systems, hire that retiree for another position and pay them top salary for their experience.
While young teachers can't break into the job market because these corrupt crony unions allow this double dipping to go on everywhere in the state.
And who pays for all these relics working for the school system while also collecting a pension that pays them six figures?
The taxpayers that pay some of the highest school taxes in the nation.
The difference between Florida and NY based on. 100k salary and 200k home.
NY
8,300 Income Tax, 6,200 School Tax, 5,100 property tax
FL
0 Income Tax, 2,400 combined School and Property Tax
In the past I have disagreed with Ken Burgess, but today I think he is right on. The situation vis-à-vis teachers and unions Is another case of former union successes now moving to excess.
I was a teacher, and I know how the union works. Before it gets worse, encourage all you know to fight against union inroads. Let's face it. As unions grow there is no excuse for the continued existence unless they produce pay and benefit increases for members. Unfortunately, that has to come to an end when parents cannot continue to pay taxes to support such largesse.
This is the moment when things must change. In another few years the union can charge ahead with its claims of unfairness or whatever. For now, simply understand there will be no school in existence henceforth simply because you will not be able to pay the taxes. Period!
This is true, just wanted to hear that from you directly.
Thank you...
'COVID-19 data shows that Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian and Alaska Native persons in the United States experience higher rates of COVID-19-related hospitalization and death compared with non-Hispanic White populations.'
The CDC itself does consider race to be a risk factor, so giving a population with a higher risk factor preference is based on scientific data.
Do you think poverty plays a part? It certainly does in the overall health of those minorities and I would expect that overall health to play a part in the percentage that need hospitalization.
But that would not be a reason to discriminate against Asians and Caucasians in the same income level. That comes from politics and victimology, nothing else.
On the other hand, if a well run study found that those four races contracted COVID more frequently that Whites and Asians in the same environment then it might well be a good case to exhibit discrimination.
IF that's the case, then people only need to be treated based on their condition. Race shouldn't be a factor. When you focus on race, people will be treated based on their race rather than their condition.
That is called racism.
Then lets find out about the "conditions" as to specifically why certain people with identifiable and distinct physical characteristics as a group experi nice higher rates of COVID infections and death rates? If race can't be used to identify people relative to the disparity, how would you coin it?
Why are all the "brown people" subject to higher death rates in this COVID when compared to white? Let's have answers rather than semantics, Mike
It doesn't matter.
People should be treated based on their need rather than their race.
Race shouldn't matter
Are you trying to say that Covid is a racist virus?
Why is "the need" so intricately associated with a particular victim's race? If poverty is associated with it, why are the brown people so over represented all time?
There turns out to be a close correlation in this society between the "need" and the "race"
But that is a question to be addressed in another thread.
As wilderness asked: Do you think poverty plays a part?
Apparently poverty is pivotal in this question. We play statistics here. So lets ask statistics: Average income of black/hispanic households is roughly 60% of white households. This plays out in the pandemic statistics.
It may help that in other countries (without race issues) the same poverty related statistics can be observed. What makes matters worse in the USA however is the questionable health care system. If you are poor -> you can´t afford good health care -> your health may get compromised without knowing -> then you catch Covid and end up with serious or fatal consequences.
Poor people tend to live closer together in smaller housing, in appartment buildings. It is makes a difference if only your family touches your door knob or if 20 families share one main entrance/elevator. Much more likely to get infected. (The rich may also share one elevator, but they have a concierge to do the desinfecting..)
This is not a racial issue. It is a poverty issue. And why race and poverty are linked statistically - that is another discussion.
Also, this is what it really says:
Oral antiviral therapy is authorized for people who meet all of the following conditions:
Age 12 years and older and weigh at least 88 pounds for Paxlovid; 18 years and older for molnupiravir
Test positive for SARS-CoV-2 on a nucleic acid amplification test or antigen test. Results from an FDA-authorized home-test kit should be validated through video or photo but, if not possible, patient attestation is adequate.
Have mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms
Are able to start treatment within five days of symptom onset
Not hospitalized due to severe or critical COVID-19 when treatment is initiated
Have a medical condition or other factors that increase their risk for severe illness.
Consider race and ethnicity when assessing individual risk. Longstanding systemic health and social inequities may contribute to an increased risk of getting sick and dying from COVID-19.
But Jews (or black, or latinos, or any brown people) will not replace us! is a good propaganda.
I think when they got upset Rosa Parks didn’t go to the back of the bus some claimed science backed their opinion.
I’m sure the ghosts of racists past are incredibly proud of your input.
I wonder how many people know the incident with Rosa Parks was planned long before it happened. I wonder if that reality would shatter many people's perception of what happened. You know how you can learn about it? Rosa Parks opened talked about it, but that somehow didn't make it into the history books.
“The Boycott didn’t happen by accident,” legendary civil rights attorney Fred Gray said during a recent interview. “It took meticulous planning and thought. It wasn’t something that came together overnight. It took discipline and smart people.”
Gray was one of the primary figures in that planning, and he served as Parks’ attorney after her arrest. The reality, Gray said, was that civil rights leaders, led by the local chapter of the NAACP, were looking for a place to make the most noise with a peaceful protest.
Here is an interesting story about it in Time magazine.
"The mugshot and finger-printing images often used to illustrate stories about her stand on the bus were actually taken months afterward, after she presented herself for arrest when Montgomery criminalized the carpools that the city’s black community was using to orchestrate the bus boycott. The bus image meanwhile was staged at a later date; the man sitting in the seat behind her is a reporter.
While it’s not good that many people might assume those first two images came from Dec. 1, 1955—when there were no reporters or cameras around—the bigger issue, Theoharis says, is that they show her as a passive, quiet, accidental player in the civil rights struggle rather than the life-long activist she really was. And the problems with the pictures can be seen as a metaphor for the problems with the whole story of Rosa Parks."

Some white families have been on the outside looking in for hundreds of years. They go to prison and lose their livelihood when they get in trouble just the same as many colored individuals. It is the priviledged few white families that throw all the statistics out of wack. These whites have NOTHING in common with most of us, other than their skin color. The issue is not black and white. The issue is poverty...period, and there are many factors that contribute to poverty of course. The powers that be prefer to make it a black and white issue. The old divide and conquer. I recently finished this book, which I recommend to anyone.
White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America
Physicians are against the racist move in New York.
"Executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, agrees. "Risk assessment should be blind to politics, and no one should be denied equal treatment because of race. The ethical medical position is to do your best for every patient, not to stratify by political considerations,"
It could also be unconstitutional.
Legal scholar Jonathan Turley of George Washington University wrote in an opinion piece on his blog that the policy "may have triggered a new constitutional challenge."
"Using race as a factor in such medical decisions immediately triggers constitutional concerns," he wrote. "When you delve deeper into the basis for the race preferences, the constitutional concerns only multiply."
Turley pointed out that if the state were to eliminate the race criteria it would "avoid clearly discriminatory cases where someone with a more serious medical risk profile could be prioritized lower due to being white."
Odd that you didn't pipe up in July of 2020 when Trump's administration was considering the same thing. Or that you didn't claim an ageism discrimination claim when older Americans got the vaccine first and how younger people were discriminated against with vaccines. You seem to be fine with discrimination as long as race is not concerned.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/09/us/c … ccine.html
Maybe there is a difference between getting a vaccine and getting treatment for an illness.
Isn't any form of triage discrimination against someone? Giving the vaccine to the most vulnerable group is no more than triage for a vaccine.
"Triage discrimination"
THIS is the meaning of triage, and it has nothing to do with administering a vaccine to healthy people.
"1a: the sorting of and allocation of treatment to patients and especially battle and disaster victims according to a system of priorities designed to maximize the number of survivors
b: the sorting of patients (as in an emergency room) according to the urgency of their need for care"
We have tons of discrimination in our country that is legal. For instance, folks who cannot pass vision tests are not given drivers licenses. People who have had certain diseases within a period of time cannot donate blood.
Without rational discrimination, society falls apart. Children cannot buy publicly traded stock. I could go on forever, but then I would run out of contradicting information to the point (?). It would no longer be able to protect itself. To a large extent, former civilizations have all fallen because of this.
Old people got the vaccine because data showed that they would die faster, more miserably, and more often than others. This is factual, again, a deterrent to far left wing nonsense.
It is a shame that folks with your mindset are even allowed to comment here. You appeal to people who on first read say, "Oh, yes, right, dude."
Good luck with that.
Now...the biden administration has nationalized racism in healthcare.
"Biden administration guidance prioritizes race in administering COVID drugs
"Guidance issued by the Biden administration states certain individuals may be considered "high risk" and more quickly qualify for monoclonal antibodies and oral antivirals used to treat COVID-19 based on their "race or ethnicity."
In a fact sheet issued for healthcare providers by the Food and Drug Administration, the federal agency approved emergency use authorizations of sotrovimab – a monoclonal antibody proven to be effective against the Omicron variant – only to patients considered "high risk."
The guidance, updated in December 2021, says "medical conditions or factors" such as "race or ethnicity" have the potential to "place individual patients at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19," adding that the "authorization of sotrovimab under the EUA is not limited to" other factors outlined by the agency.
