      Yes, I'm also skeptical that the legal route will help us.

      There's a case to be made for writers being compensated when AI company uses their work but the current copyright laws relate to the pre-AI world, so there would have to be new legislation introduced, as far as I can see.

      I think writing is going the same way as music, which has become virtually valueless.

        Don't count out the big music companies' legal teams.  Joining together I would expect them to be a reckoning force against Google et al.

          We are talking about BIG music companies here. I am sure some legislation is happening in California.

            If you look closely at the big music companies involved in legal actions against AI, a lot of them have their own AI businesses. They're trying to protect their own content because they want to dominate the AI market.

            Music won't start being valuable again like it once was. That battle was over years ago and began with Napster.

            I gave music as an example of how a media can become worthless through technological developments. The same looks set to happen with writing, certainly the sort of online articles that we write.

            ChatGPT may turn out to be our Napster.
