Who put that link in my hub?

   Ok, so someone left a comment on a hub of mine. They have replaced their name with an external link and I'm not sure whether to keep it or delete it.
   
   I could keep it but what if it is Spam and pushes my page in google down? The link they posted is more or less a new site so I am not sure of the implications as yet.
   
   What do you suggest? Thanks!

      dont sweat the small stuff
      
      if the comment is garbage, delete it, if your just a little bit concerned about negative effects of outgoing link to a spam site (bad neighborhood) than delete it
      
      In most cases the comment was only created for the backlink anyway, its not like they will come back and be angry with you
      
      
      nowadays, i never accept the one sentence "great hub" .."thanks " comments that even hubbers leave...just because of the slight decrease in my keyword density it creates (not that i focus on this..but my cost/benefit analysis says  no crappy comments

      just deny it. i never add links to my hubs...and those especially since they are kind of spammy.

         cosette, that's not very considerate, when you consider that you would probably want to take advantage of the same feature if you were commenting on someone's blog.
         
         Provided the comment is good and their site isn't spammy, I think it's courtesy to approve it.

   The thing is, its a really good comment and it points to a relevant site that uses adsense too!
   
   I wanted to delete it because it was a blatant backlinking attempt,  backlinking works in my favor if I'm the one doing it. Does a back link placed by that site on my hub help my ranking?

   For the one who placed it, its a backlink
   
   For you its an outgoing link, the old flagship hub standards recommended 10-15(I think) outgoing links, I assume because of a perceived SEO benefit.
   
   You seems to be aware of the risks of outgoing links to bad/spam sites.
   
   As a marketer who makes a majority of my income from online sources - I severely limit and control all exit points from my articles and pages ..i want an adsense click or a purchase, having outbound links to competitors or non-partnered sites is rather rare for me but that doesnt go as far as caring where a commenters name is linked to
   
   but in general, if it bothers you at all, just delete it
   
   you could even copy the comment and post it with your own account sans outgoing .link lol

      Sunforged, does that mean you don't agree with the recommendation to include outgoing links?  I used to take the same attitude as you - it seemed daft to offer visitors alternative, non-paying ways to leave my Hub or site. 
      
      Lately I've been going back and adding a links capsule (right at the bottom, under the comments) after being told it was important to have links to other reputable, related sites.

      thanks for clarifying this point, as I do hesitate at times to make outgoing links even though it can open in a new window, I wonder.

   It means i trust that Hubpages put research and knowledge into their formula for the flagships - so i think the external links suggestion must have a purpose
   
   But since my hubs perform well for the keywords I target and I know that backlinking is the single most important factor in ranking, I do completely disregard that suggestion.
   
   whatever seo benefit exists I believe controlling and limiting a visitors exit options is equally as supported in the internet marketing field
   
   I do stick stuff below the comment box, i always stick a rss feed and/or news feed, sometimes random amazon or ebay capsules to give an early boost to the hubs starting score and stuff of that sort, ..I mean all those capsules are filled with links to reputable sites arent they?
   
   But in all reality, sticking a list of URL's before or after your comment box isnt going to hurt...once they have read that far, I think they are already lost as "customers"

      I generally stick a news capsule there - hadn't thought of usnig ebay or amazon capsules though.
