    DJ -

This is your purview and I love what you are doing here.

So, I have a question - Is this not the best Rock and Roll song ever?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2ybQuhQv8g

If not, what is a better song?

It's definitely one of them.   I play a lot of Stones if I'm in bars and that is the one that the die-hard fans really appreciate.  If it's Zeppelin, then the fans want, "Hey Hey What Can I Do?".

      Best of all-time?  Who knows?
People have ranked 'Satisfaction" # 1 in the past.
Some people still say Stairway to Heaven.  Back in Black?  Crazy Train?

      For me personally....
      La Grange by ZZ TOP
Sultans of Swing by DIRE STRAITS
Every Breath You Take by THE POLICE
Runnin' With The Devil by VAN HALEN

Those are some of my favorites, as well. But a list of greatest songs would not be complete without Freebird. What can I say, I'm an old schooler.

If we switch the van halen one for the stones, I am with DJ.

There are so many. How about adding -

    Born to be wild

I can see for miles and miles

And one you don't hear much of now -

    Free electric band

Hundreds of em. A few of my favorites:
Don't Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock and Roll Long - John Baldry.
Let Me Sleep on It - Meat Loaf.
    Sunset Grill Don - Henley.
Welcome to the Boomtown - David & David.
One of Our Submarines - Thomas Dolby.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who even heard od David & David.  Great posts.

Personally, I think the bridge of Every Breath You Take is my favorite all-time.

Since you've gone, I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only here your face
    I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep cryin' baby baby please...

It absolutely breaks my heart every time I hear it.
And it's not the words it's the aching way he sings it.
It's a painful longing I've never known in life, thank goodness.

People treat this like a stalker tune but I really think it's about ultimate heartache.

LA GRANGE is my choice though.  Nothing rocks like that jam.  You hear the drawl of the voice and you just know that the sweet drum roll is coming.....and then donnonna nonna nonna

Good Point crash.  That's exactly how I feel about my VH pick.  I wouldn't call it everyone's best but it just takes me to real good place.

I have a theory about the song Satisfaction and why it has proven so durable but I will not waste it on a forum.  Saving it for the book.

crashcromwellposted 15 years agoin reply to this

It's funny that you mention about saving it for the book. I've been conceptualizing trying to craft a book out of my hub pages. Call it something like The World According To Crash, or some such thing. I'd probably want to expand upon the hubs so there would be new material, but it could be fun!

  23. DJ Funktual profile image76
    DJ Funktualposted 15 years ago

I wouldn't put something on hubpages if I was using it for the book.    All I give away are lists..

    MY RULE OF THUMB
If there's something I wanna see or read on the internet and it's not there, then I have to create it myself!

Just like Sly Stone did when HE was a Disc Jockey but didn't hear any music he wanted to hear so he created it.

    IT'S CALLED FUNK!

Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin !
