Does anybody know about how many words you have to change in order for an article not to be considered copying?
Plagiarizing can happen if you copy someone's ideas too, even if you use all your own words.
Thank you for your help, but I'm not really actually copying. See I gonna do a hub where there are pictures of cars and just the basic facts. The problem is that there are already articles like this all over the web and the cars will all have the same facts so I am going to try may best and make it original
If you are producing a Hub that is just a regurgitation of stuff that's already out there, it's not going to do all that well. You not only have to use original copy in a Hub, you need to have an original angle or idea if you want it to catch the attention of the search engines and the reading audience.
Like I said, I'm gonna put my own twist on it to make it somewhat original, but the one I started on (which I haven't published yet) said duplicate. I did fix it though so now it doesn't say that anymore.
I would think that someone who acuses you a stealing their ideas on a website where there are hundreds, even thousands of hub articles, it would be next to impossible to do anything about it. Where you find someone else doing what you are doing, there may be a dozen more that you don't know about.
One thing I learned from going to a writing seminar, is to save and date your work! If you plan to publish it, make copies of everything you write. Sign your name to it, date it, and stick it in an envelope and mail it to yourself. But, do not open it when you get it back! If someone steals your work, this will be your dated evidence that you created it.
I'm not saying this is 100 percent foolproof. But, it is something you can do to protect yourself. But, wether or not that is possible on an internet site might not matter. As I would think it would be up to hubpages to decide what to do about it. More than likely cancelling your, and the accusers
accounts, so that the problem no longer exists.
One of the reasons why I do music reviews, and movie reviews.
There are hundreds of critics out there, so to say that someone
is copying your idea would be idiotic. Unless that person has developed their own language or code to post, and you copy that.
I don't see that happening here. If someone copies you, or you copy them, it is one of the downfalls of publishing in a free
public forum. One of the reasons why my monster hub has been a could be anything post. How are you going to steal an idea, when you don't know what it is?

I am not going to drag up the recent massive plagiarism activity again, but - as you know Maddie - I have found that quite a lot of my hubs have been de-indexed and my traffic here is dropping despite publishing new work and despite actively promoting myself outside of hubpages. I realize that it...

I knew this could happen, but was surprised by it this morning. I've been getting my hubpages accounts sorted out over the last week or so, and I moved some hubs from an old account I had here last year. Before anyone starts yelling about sockpuppets, I never came in the forums back then. I dunno,...

There is so much of this going on that it may not be worthwhile to mention. Since I know that this site is not cooperative, I sent my DMCA complaint to Google. My hub is copied word for word with all the lovely photographs and even a link to another similar hub. It probably is my best hub with lots...

Usually I find a couple pieces of stolen article copy on different sites. Today, it's more than enough to make me comment here. HP notifies us, adds the complaint link, and the complaint file cut-paste copy but little else to build a brick wall against content thieves. For every click...

I've just found a number of my hubs on this site: www(dot)toknowthings(dot)com. Looks like there has been wholesale copying from HP going on so you might want to check for your articles. I will be filing DMCAs tomorrow - I'll post the details of the hosting etc if anyone else...
