I'm a softy when it comes to human suffering. Not only have I experienced a lot of it myself, but seeing others go through it wrenches me. As I read the headlines I wasn't affected much until the photos started pouring in. It could have been *any* of us that could be in this position now. All the more reason why it's heart-warming to hear and see the kind of humanitarian relief efforts that are being made.

I think it would be well for us to take a moment and ponder how easily it could have been any of us, and what we might do in such circumstances. In fact, it may well be any of us, since these disasters are happening around the globe. The Chinese earthquake, the Tsunami of 2004, and Katrina are not so far in our past.

Disasters are the "great equalizer", aren't they? They have a tendancy to elevate us all to the common ground of empathy and compassion.  What we do with those feelings can make all the difference in the world.

The relief effort will be difficult and expensive. Many organizations will be involved and they need donations. The Red Cross and others would welcome any amount that you can give.
    Thanks.

Indeed, even my favorite Dj; Tiesto has been deeply touch by this situation and as a community we support him in his efforts.

in our own little way as writers, am sure we can be of help somehow

it really made me teary eyed, yes, specially the children

I experienced 7.7 magnitude when I was in the Philippines, and the memories flashed back, cant help but to stop for what I am doing, it is scary to see the many bodies filing up, but I can almost feel the emotions and the direction where the people are going into

they need food, water and emotional support

but we can be of help

try to read the articles also of Dao and Rope, plus HubPages staff  emailed us about where to give donations etc

Thanks PD!  We are doing something! Even your post here will help. The more we, as writers, post about ways to contribute legitmately and the more we, as compassionate humans, can find ways to help, no matter our financial status, we provide assistance.  Thanks for getting the word out.

I think the thread's title can be misleading... Nevertheless I found your thread very good overall... Yeah the angst is all over the place as many people were trapped and even killed beneath the rubbles. The building collapses and other many other infrastructures were simply reduced to pulp, same scenario that happen to us in the Philippines in 1990...

We need to give not only material support, but also humanity.
Company; and let this people know that we are with them, 'cause this situations can take persons to several metal illness and deep traumas that are indeed sometimes, worst than material lost.
