When we post an hub, we are asked to enter "tags". The system also suggests plenty of other tags after our posting the article. Suppose I add some of them appearing as relevant, I get more tags again!
My question is: are these the "meta tags"? Some SEO guidelines suggest that such external tags ("meta tags") are not much of use nowadays. It is said that the "natural" key words in the article are the ones that Google is concerned about and not the externally thrust meta-tags. It is also said that relevant key words only decide the right context sensitive ads and not these tags.
Is it true? Is it really important to load lots of tags? Is it significant and worth?

alot of web 2.0 companies use tag systems like Yieldbuild that you see here on hubpages. .. i contacted staff about these tags and got a reply that they are used internally and externally but rather than be added as meta tags they are somehow added using javascript or something like that to the page and are read that way... hope that gets ya looking in the right direction. each web 2.0 uses its own tag generator system as I'm sure you,ve seen all over the net by now and i read that edmondson ,one of the founders of hubpages used to work directly with yieldbuild at microsoft so they obviously picked the the one they were familiar with from b4. hope that helps
C.V i think you misunderstand what meta tags are. Meta tags are place in the actual code of a website, unlike normal tags which are visable to every day users. I am not sure what you mean by external tags and so forth!
Thanks Mel22. I think you have clarified it.
Thisisoli,
I thought the tags that we enter while submitting our hubs (which I called external tags) will somehow get into the content as meta-tags.
CVR
Not sure what mel clarified, cause them obviously have no idea what they are talking about.
No, the tags you attach to your hub do NOT go into any of meta tags.
You need to understand that meta tags and tag on blogs or hubs are absolutely unrelated things. Writing on HP, you don;t need to bother about meta tags at all, they take care of this part for you. And no, this has nothing to do with yieldbuild whatsoever.
Now, tags that you put on hubs are actually links to special pages, that contain links to all the hubs that use this tag. May be not too easy to understand at first, but if you click on any tag, you will see what I am talking about.
It is an important feature that helps you to rank well with search engines.
wow..thats a lot of misinformation to handle in one bite...but ill try
hubpages owns yieldbuild...whats microsoft got to do with it, and there is no used to about it, hubpages=yieldbuild
"tags"are not used the same way by "web 2.0" properties..."web 2,0"= user generated content, nothing more
Yieldbuild has no relationship to your tags
The best use of tags Here at hubpages is the interlinking it provides, each tag has its own page which counts as an inlink to your page, plus the tags trigger the related hubs options. Also creating links to your pages.
No relationship to metatags
Since this comes up every couple of weeks I wrote a hub about it. I don't think this counts as self promotion, it was just easier to write a hub than to write the same thing every couple of weeks in the forums.

It's confusing because some sites like Squidoo used to use the tags strictly to generate meta tags, but have recently gone to creating tag pages like Wordpress and Hubpages do instead.

What's the difference between keywords and tags? This is a question only a newbie to computers would ask, I'm sure, but I bought my very first computer a little over a year ago and hope you could write a hub-or an email-about this. I've looked at some answers given by other hubbers and am...

Is HubPages unable to place meta tags on the hubs created by the members of the site?I've also noticed this with Wizzley as well, so now I'm wondering about other article submission sites as well. So are article submission sites unable to place meta tags or is this something that they choose...
