With some users using the threaded view and others using chrono some threads are becoming intelligible
Ex)

You'll see in chrono view that one hubber responds in a conversational manner 3 posts in a row-in that view it makes no sense ..(As Misha points out) the intention becomes obvious in threaded view.
Any chance of having the quote button automatically insert something like
@[username] so the forum makes sense in either view...kind of like the quote button does?
Also why is the "past posts" link gone in threaded view?
Considering its Saturday, Ill come back and bump this on Monday afternoon, to see if I can get a response from admin

Yep, this will work too. I still think inserting a quote makes more sense cause it will show exactly the post that was replied to, but even just @username will be way better than nothing
I just think something needs to be done, i dont have a favorite method..anything that makes chronological still make sense
I think the move away from quoting might save on server space and costs? ALso hubusers have shown to be alittle overboard in quoting pages of text in order to target one small comment held within.
I think I saw threads discussing this? Im guessing their must be some motvation for putting energy into the "threaded" view and it really doesnt appear to be usability
I agree something should be done. I was highly confused looking at it the chronological way when I couldn't figure out who someone was talking to. I had to put it in threaded and find the comment there.
I like the @name, but then people still have to go back and see what that person said, if the reply isn't right there together.
I don't know...
I don't like the threaded look; I know that much.
I say get rid of the general reply button at the bottom, go with a reply button in each post, your response goes in with the quoted text of the person you are replying to automatically.
Isn't that what the quote button does? (Like this response to you)
Yes but not everyone uses it and that is why it gets confusing, eliminate all the extra buttons and just have reply or new post
Is the problem with that idea not that each post gets longer and longer as it includes the text you are replying to, and that text will include whoever wrote's reply to the poster before, and on and on?
I think make it one or the other... As mentioned, not everyone uses the same one. Take a consensus and figure out which version most people use, and stick with that...
The threaded view is too confusing and looks silly. Just start removing excessive quotes- set a character limit to what can be quoted. Or just set it so that the actual post being quoted is just that one. Like if the post has quotes from like 3 or 4 people, just pull over the last person.
For example, if I tried to quote Misha's last comment that has quotes from Has_aWayWithWords quoted twice and Sara Tonyn once, my quote would just pull in what Misha said.
I know that can be done because I'm on another forum that does that. The quote button only pulls over what the post that you clicked 'Quote' says, and nothing else.
The only problem is when people write books and it quotes 5 pages with of content. At that point, a character limit would take care of that.
I can't use threaded because the messages come out small and I find them very difficult to read.
I wish they'd just switch over to a message board forum that is already programmed versus constantly reprogramming this one. For example this style is SO EASY to read & jump around, its a V-Bulletin forum.

If I'm bad at posting the link, please remove and I'm sorry.
Being able to quote a post, like all the other forums, would make this much more user friendly.
I like the threaded view myself, because it makes it much easier to avoid pointless tangential discussions (or engage in them without feeling guilty about thread hijacking), but I agree that if you're going to keep both options there needs to be some way of telling who is replying to who in the chronological view. I've had to switch back a few times to see what was being quoted at me, and found it hopelessly hard to follow.
Yey! They took my idea... Only being able to quote the person who you're actually replying to not everyone and their brother, sister, and mother that they quoted too. :-)

I would suggest dropping the “Threaded view” since it confuses people. I've noticed that those who use it tend to overlook important parts of a conversation in a thread. If only "Chronological View" were used, this would not only simplify things, but everyone involved would be in sync...

When replying to a forum post, we are given the opportunity to "import and edit the quote." If the comment to be quoted contains an image, only the text below the image will be imported, the image and any text above it is not captured. As long as you're looking at that code anyway, it...

I've only just discovered that quoted sections do not show up in "Threaded" view. If someone posts a long list of questions, I'll often manually quote the different sections so I can reply to them individually. Relache just posted a quote which didn't show up and caused...

am i alone in not liking how the forum posts are being jumbled when you quote or reply to earlier posts?

After much suffering with the new forums format, and observing and analyzing, I came to the conclusion that it is possible to have my cake and eat it, too - if HP developers will cooperate. The problem: Replies made in threaded view look absolutely unconnected in chronological view, up to the point...
