I know there are others like myself who write mainly for self enjoyment and especially for creative writing.  I realize CW doesn't normally bring in much cash here but I think some sort of contest would be fun on occasion.

Just an idea, but tell me your thoughts and suggestions on the matter if you are interested.

There would be no prize money of course, but it would be fun!

Are you suggesting a contest on HubPages?  I can't see why they would do that, as it only encourages the type of writing which doesn't bring them a profit.

Anyway, there are quite a number of creative writing sites where that kind of thing is available already.

Hubpages would not have to be involved Marisa, and besides, there are those who already do poetry and short stories anyway.

I'm willing to give it a try.  I don't expect to make any money, but I'm very willing to give it a try.  I love creative writing.

Sorry to take so long to respond to everyone, but I have several occupations which take up most of my time.

The hardest part of having a contest is the judging of the winners.  On other sites a CW contest usually turns into a popularity contest if judged by the site bigwigs.

I have observed terrible short stories chosen because the writer was a staff favorite.  Usually it's someone who turns out hundreds of info articles but doesn't have CW talent.

Anyone having suggestions as to the best method of judging the winner or winners are welcome to put them forward.  Also, the genre, whether it be short stories, poetry,or whatever.  A contest in several genres would also work.  So, let's hear your ideas if you are interested.

I like the idea of a genre of categories, being we all have different strong points (short stories-poetry etc).
The voting? We could all vote on it, but that can sometimes turn out to be a popularity contest, rather than a writing contest-the judging needs to be by people who read all the entries-not just read one or two and vote because they saw something they liked.

I enjoy blogging random posts. I'm not so good at writing long creative articles. I  like to keep everything super simple and to the point. Creative writing contests would be fun though for people who enjoy it.

I have been trying to work out the CW contest so it would be fair to all who enter, whichever genre they chose.  I have a few ideas but so far nothing definite.

As I stated earlier, anyone with suggestions are welcome to contact me, either on this thread or through HP.  The judging of the winners is the most important aspect of the contest.  I will keep trying to figure something out which suits everyone.

Thanks for your interest.  I think it would be fun and also a learning process for everyone involved.
