This has come up in the forums many times - all the evidence suggests they get very high traffic, but earn very little money.  People come to photo Hubs to look at the pictures and they don't click on the ads.

I do not believe videos are watched more than 1/4 percent of people, and photos if done properly are always going to heighten the visual product but we are talking average 5 minutes to grab someones attention, once they are there.  Getting them there is where the smart marketing comes into play.

I at the risk of being shot, ask this; are we publishing?  Because a button says so?  I have really come to the conclusion that given we are paid based on certain criteria and after we have gone public with a hub that will indeed get copied then forgotten about quickly, if commercial aren't we just advertising a product?  If not commercial we are marketing a talent?  I had 2 people from Japan have me Hub their products, it went well, but I was advertising, a form of communication to bring and make make something attractive and desirable to buy.  20+ years in this business and I see nothing wrong with calling commercial hubs ads where pictures and capsules form an art directors presentation.  Out here when we publish, it's tough.  You can't do 5 hubs a day or other sites over and over again.  Don't get me wrong it is fun or we wouldn't do it.  But handing those 4 hardcover books to my grandmother was publishing, as so many have done here, and much more.  Magazines pay up front to an author/writer, tough to get work seen.  Twice editors have told me please not to recite Internet work, my daughters 12, publishing.  I thought that was out of line, and got me really thinking, it is me who took that word for real everywhere in cyber world, suppose I will continue to, again it is fun, and my print work out here is just another venue I suppose, one I do prefer.  I am lucky not to be in a position to have to do either, and have slowed down a great deal.  HubPages is worth it I do believe in the community and do enjoy reading the work here

The quality hubs will have extra media to prolong a visitors stay to hopefully get them to click on a ad wink but to use photo's of women only ...no, they don't really make a lot of $$ and I think those type Hubs should be at lowest end of HP scale, never as featured . hmm Objectifying women is of such poor character.

Objectifying women? You are kidding right? It's just another marketing tool.

      Marketing/Advertising is what drives traffic.

Do these get people to click on an ad? Yes, if done properly, they do make clicks. How much the clicks are worth? Is a different story. However, the hubs make up in volume traffic, so more clicks are obtained.

This method exchanges lots of low earnings clicks, but the traffic is much, much higher.

Low earning clicks + higher traffic volume= increased earnings.
High earning clicks + lower traffic volume= increased earnings.

Doesn't matter how it's made. For those, that are simply no context/writing, this I am not too fond of, and mostly won't make any clicks, but will drive tons of traffic.

If you don't give your view a reason to buy or click, then you are not making money.

It's too bad we cannot objectify men in the same way but they don't really sell as well as women are more complicated then show em a flash of flesh and they got their wallets out ready to spend smile

they do draw in a lot more traffic for you, and i recently discovered that whenever you do add images to your hubs, they become even more searchable on google.  however, as far as money wise goes, no you'll be making  about the same without them. plus, a lot of times the videos you put up, will be taken off without you knowing about it unless you were the one who created it.  Then you'll have to periodically check up on your hubs to replace the video if it gets taken down.  anyway, that's been my experience anyway as i write a lot of film reviews on here.  lol

as far as dame scribe said, i don't disagree with her about hubs with only women photos as i think it's vastly unfair to other hubbers here.  like I can name a few hubs right now where all they have is like two or 3 paragraphs saying nonsense like how hot the girl is and stuff like that.  then get plastered with hundreds of girl pics where the women are barely clothed or they only have like a hand covering the private parts.  seriously, it's really lame to think about it.  I mean for my film review, "Capitalism:  A Love Story", I put in like almost 8 months of research into that hub, but that didn't nearly draw in a lot of traffic as what some other hubbers put up with celebrities being barely clothed.  sheesh, it  kind of make me think I should make all my hubs  dedicated to showing nothing but scantily clad girls, since thats all most people care about these days.

Steve, if a video gets taken down, it will show up on your broken links report so it's easy to keep an eye on.  However, I'm sure you know the copyright laws by now and should be able to spot a clip that's illegal before you post the link.

Take comfort from the fact that (as others have said) HubPages says these girlie Hubs attract lots of traffic but very little ad revenue.

oh i'm perfectly aware of the copyright laws, so i'm not worried about that.  however, thanks for the warning anyway.

as far as taking comfort in knowing that the hubs that do rely solely on having nothing but girlie pics up goes, I don't take comfort either way.  To be honest, I don't even pay attention to most of them  as most of them are generically the same.  However, it only bothers me when i see that those same hubs become featured the same day theyre published because of that.  which isn't fair to some of the hubbers out there if you ask me. however, i'm not bitter about it. just irritated. lol.

Hi Cagsil smile I know it's another marketing tool and that rule that S** sells tongue lol. I just don't agree with it nor have to like it. All them singers (especially if cant sing) that dress and dance like ...'exotic' (loosely used now) dancers are just not good role models for our children. lol they would do good for that P*** industry I guess. hmm tongue lol

Sorry, I only deal in America's best celebrities. And, mostly women, because I am biased toward women. I'm not displaying them in any different manner than they have already been done, by someone else.

I don't try to do porn. I use pictures included with Amazon and a News feed about them. I do have a few hubs done about young girls in swimsuits/bikinis, which are simply for display purposes only.

Do these receive clicks? Yes. I know the difference between slutty and garbage, and a quality hub. Not all my photo hubs fall into the category of quality, but they do work.

As I said before. I don't approve of certain ones, that have absolutely no text and only consist of pictures, a waste. They don't produce and if they do, you have to make a lot of them.

So, on that note, I was nice to see you again Dame Scribe. smile big_smile

Not sure if they recieve more views but they look better than plain hubs, i always use images and links out to youtube. Then again im a keen photographer.

Most of my views do come via google, other ways are to post your hubs via facebook, twitter and digg ect, these produce some views.

I'd have to say yes they do. But I'm not here to make any money. I'm just here to express myself, entertain and inform. Photos and videos seem to work for me.

I enjoy some of the hubs with a lot of pictures, Llike Micky Dee's. But some hubbers go to extreme with the videos. I cannot and will not watch more than two.

I Just created a hub, explaining the benefits of using video and how it can attract viewers, i also go into some detail how the video can benefit you in the search engines. I have also seen 2 other hubs explaining traffic tactics using video.  Fact is video online is only getting bigger. If you can use it then you should in my opinion.
