New to Hub and I came across it because I always wanted to blog.  I am really not technologically savvy.  Basically my contribution would be made up of personal experiences and my hope is to provide comfort, share lessons and maybe even get advice.  Just want to share and see if I can learn about marketing.  I would like to network and meet others who perhaps can help me.

What is too personal is entirely dependent on what you want to share.  Barring a few rules about profanity, you can be as candid as you like.  Your name is anonymous enough that, if the key people in your life don't know who you are, you have the freedom to explore the important questions in your life with abandon.

However, you should know that HubPages is NOT really a blog site.  If you're looking to blog, you might want to look into blogger.com or something.

The difference is that on a site like that, you can make short posts, long posts etc., in a running sequence.

HubPages is more of an article writing place.  Which does NOT mean that you can't post daily articles, or weekly or whatnot. The ability to add photos and videos and lots of stuff is really awesome at hubpages, and the things you write can be enriched by the features HubPages has.  But HubPages articles lack the symmetry of a blog.

All that said, I write personal stuff and humor on here, and I get readers from time to time, so this is a decent forum to explore yourself in considered memoir format.  It takes time to find readers though.  So make sure you are writing for yourself, for your own joy, not for readers or cash.

Those will come in time. (Well, there's not much adsense revenue in personal writing, but hey...)

I think you can be as personal as you like. However, when relating your experiences you should do so in a way that doesn't reveal the identity of others without their knowledge or consent. For example you would write about your next door neighbor after having revealed your address, you might instead refer to them as an aquaintence. Enjoy!

Myabiss, as Shadesbreath said, HubPages is not a blogging site.  Most people who visit your Hubs won't see your whole story - they'll probably only visit one Hub.  If you want people to get involved with your journey overall, you'd probably be better on a blogging site like blogger.com.

Think of HubPages like a magazine and you're writing a weekly column.  Each one needs to substantial enough to stand alone, because some people will only buy the magazine that week - but fans will buy again next week.

Welcome to hubpages. I wish you all success here. Please read FAQ section. It will help you a lot. You can also enjoy reading hubs written by other hubbers and comment on those. You can be "fan" of any hubber and post fan mail to their profile. You can add relevant hubs of others with referral trackers A little suggestions as you are new and informed that not techno-savvy.

Please ensure not writing "strictly personal" hubs. This is not allowed in the hubpages.

Please feel free to ask any question in related forum threads.

      Thanks,
      Jyoti Kothari

        A) What is a "strictly personal" hub?

        B) Where does it say you can't write one?

I've never seen anything that even remotely resembles a restriction on that front.  At all.  Nor have I ever seen any HubPages censorship of hubs that have zero commercial value.  In fact, NONE of my hubs have ANY commercial value.  Or at best, one or two.

Write what you want.  If it's not porn or profane, they don't care.

You can see it when you start a hub.
          Thanks

My hub on addiction is really personal.  I really just depends on how you write it and what you are trying to say.

The beauty of hubpages is you can just about write about anything (as long as it is not sexually explicit or offensive) - just use your common sense.  Dont write personal attacks, have some respect and dont copy anyone elses work!  Hubpages likes originality and rich content... so welcome to hubpages and have fun! x
