OK, I have written about my computer issue with Dell for the past 2 weeks.
New Hard drive, New OP system, New memory upgrade, new Motherboard on Friday......and a few hours ago...A TOTAL CRASH!!! Now they say my NEW hard drive has crashed!!!!!!
Even would not boot up!
Called Tech and I let them have it!!! I was pissed and they caught it big time.
They are going to replace total computer...But....2-3 weeks????? Two weeks already and another two to three weeks? What a joke!!!!! I paid good money for this computer. They advertise in their TV commercials 24 hour service...BUT...reality...2-3 weeks!?!?!?!?
I did let them know that the Better Business Bureau will get a phone call Monday morning, My lawyer Monday morning, the state TV's customer consumer line and that I will be writing a DELL Review online. They still say 2-3 weeks!!!!!
I will not settle for that!!!
As a guess....I (thank God I did not send back the OLD hard drive yet......I replaced the NEW hard drive with the OLD defective hard drive which will run off the Vista disk) and I am online.
Dell Computers are the worst computers One can buy!!!!!Of course they will send a tech with ALL refurbished parts by mid-week and THEY hope this will give me a computer until the NEW(Cough-'Refurbished computer') arrives.
I am not that gullible!!!!! I will let a lawyer deal with this. I want a Computer I Paid for that works! I will not settle.
Dell will feel my wrath!!!
I've had a Dell computer for a year or two now. The only real problem I had with it was that Dell kind of screwed me because they used different sized parts than a normal computer would have. So when I went to put in a new graphics card it wouldn't fit, I had to overhaul basically everything inside except the hard drive which set me back a couple hundred bucks.
I would not buy another Dell, ever.
I feel your pain - one thing's for sure: I won't be buying a Dell computer in the future!
If you're not bothered about whether you have a desktop or laptop PC, and you only need it for everyday stuff like Internet browsing/email/wordprocessing etc. (as opposed to memory-hungry stuff like games), then I actually think it's worth buying a 2nd hand PC.
I bought a refurbished desktop a couple of months back to use as a backup machine, from a company that specialises in refurbished and ex-corporate equipment. It cost the princely sum of £39.99 including VAT and delivery, and had Windows XP pre-installed. (Mind you it was just a system unit, but I already had a perfectly good keyboard and monitor anyway.)
I do prefer a laptop...but after all the money I invested into this one.....they will give me a computer that works or a lawyer will do it for me!!!!!!!
But I can guarantee that my next one will not be a Dell!!!!!!
Which model do you have? I have the Inspiron 1520 series. I am actually shocked at all the issues I have had. I wish I had your luck with dell!
What really pisses me off (sorry for the language) is the TV Ads for the 24 hours service and then I get 2-3 weeks from the tech support!!! This is fraud advertisement. I paid for the 24 hour service and I am not receiving what I paid for.
they will say they have given you service within 24 hours, but fixing the problem may take longer. I guess it's the word 'service' and exactly how they define it.
I don't use Dell. we have imacs and the laptop is toshiba.
good luck! hope you get what you want!
I have an XPS M1330. It does get very hot at times but really hasn't given me any problems.
I take it that is a newer model than mine? Mine gets hot also. I have had several techs come to the house the past two weeks and then after a few hours after they leave...computer break down again.
I finally put in the old hard drive...it will run Off of the Vista disk. But...online is the only thing I can do with this. I cannot do anything else. I use my computer for business, but I can't do that even now until I get this fixed. I am two weeks behind and sounds like 2-3 weeks more behind. It will cost me 2 computers in price to pay for the labor/work to have computer files updated when I get a computer that actually works.
Like I said earlier...I wish I had your luck! What is your secret? lol Please!!!!!
I really don't know. I do know that I had problems with my first Dell laptop and had to send it back for repairs. I did get it back in 2 days though. Maybe Dell Canada has better service
Mine is a dell inspiron 1545. It is just over a year old and so far no issues at all.
I know many people have issues with dell but Im almost certain I would buy another one.
Dale
I have had a least 8 dells and they are no worse than anything else. I have worn some of them out but none of them ever broke when they were newish.
My second hard drive in a year I installed last week and it went completely out yesterday...worse than before. I am using the first replacement hard drive and it runs off of the windows disk only.
We only use Dell computers where I work and have for years. We love them. I bought a Dell for home in July 08 and have not had one single problem with it.
I'm sorry you've been having problems Michael. Hopefully, it'll all get sorted out soon!

I thought I was buying the whole Windows 7 from Dell when I wanted to upgrade from Vista. I now find out that this is just an "Upgrade" which means that Vista is still on my hard drive, just with Windows 7 running. I have to keep Vista for 7 to work. Dell tells me that Vista is still...

The hard drive on my laptop completely crashed the other day and will not boot up at all. Is there a way to connect to another computer (Desk Top) to retrieve data from the C drive. All my HP backup and research was on this computer. HELP.

My dinosaur computer is slow and my sister was telling me I should get an external hard drive. Can someone tell me if they think this would help and about how much it costs. Do you think it's worth it or should one just get another computer?
