Batman Arkham City Lego Sets For 2013 - Release Date & News

Updated on November 21, 2012

On this page we are going to be having a look at new Batman Arkham City Lego sets for 2013. We will check out some of these new Lego Batman sets and talk about possible release dates and other news. If you are a fan of Arkham City and like Lego then this is something that you should enjoy. So for all the latest information this page will be your one stop guide.

Batman Arkham City is a video game which came out in 2011. It was a follow up to the massively popular Arkham Asylum which came out a few years earlier. The video game is of course based on the well known DC Universe character of Batman. This is a far darker story line than the usual ones we are used to when it comes to Batman and the theme is considered to be more adult in content. Despite this fact though it looks as though Lego are going to be bringing out some sets based on Arkham City in 2013.

So the big news is that we are expecting Lego to release new Batman Arkham City sets in 2013. These will be under the superheroes theme and in the DC Universe subtheme. There have been rumours of this release for a while but at San Diego Comic Con in July these rumours seem to gather momentum due to the release of a range of new superhero minifigures.

Now we have confirmation that there is indeed going to be an Arkham City set. This will have the item number 10937 and is going to be called 'Arkham Asylum Breakout'. This is going to be a massive build with a whopping 1600+ pieces. So probably the biggest ever Batman build that Lego have released. There is no official release date yet but we expect Lego to make it available sometime in December, just in time for Christmas. The build features the asylum and it is two stories high. There is a special prison for both Poison Ivy and The Joker. There is also a little police van and the gates to the asylum that look really good.

Undoubtably the highlight of this one though is the fact that there are eight minifigures. These are going to be Batman with actual Batwings, a hooded version of Robin, Poison Ivy, Penguin, The Joker, Scarecrow, Harleen Quinzel and also a prison guard. That basically seems like the vast majority of the major Batman characters all together in one place! A really exciting prospect for any Lego collectors. The Arkham Asylum set will not come cheap though, this is expected to retail at around $150, for such a huge build though it should be worth every penny.

This new set then is of course something that many people have been asking for since the release of the original Arkham Asylum video game. To some it may come as a surprise that Lego have gone down this road as the video game is considered much darker in content so maybe not as child friendly. But this new build does look very good and Lego have taken the edge of the version that we see in the game somewhat.

It will be interesting to see how Lego convert and then release any future sets. One thing is for sure, there are some great characters and villains available that they can bring out and base some new products around.

There is also another set that has now been confirmed by Lego. This will be Arctic Batman vs Mr Freeze - Aquaman On Ice. The new set will have the item number 76000. The minifigures included will be the ones we mentioned that were previewed at Comic Con, so we get a white Batman, a Mr Freeze and of course an Aquaman. When we get more details on this new set we will put them on this page and also try to find a picture of the new set.

More Batman Figures

More Lego Superheroes Coming Soon

When we first got our introduction to the new Superheroes theme at the end of 2011, Batman was the first line of toys that we got a chance to get our hands on. Since then we have seen lots of other sets such as a Superman one, a Spiderman set and a few based on the Avengers. Surprisingly there were no new sets released when The Dark Knight Rises hit our screens over the summer. This was a massive film and so fans were expecting a few TDKR sets to hit the shops, these never quite materialised though. Now though it has been announced that there will be a set called Batman vs Bane - Chase With Tumbler. This will have the item number 76001 and will feature the Tumbler which is one of the vehicles featured in the movie.

There have been some more superhero announcements as well that we can bring you news on. Next year the massive new Superman movie hits our screens. Man Of Steel is tipped to do very well and so as you would expect, Lego are taking their opportunity to bring out a few sets based on this theme. These new sets will include Metropolis Showdown, Battle Of Smallville and also Black Zero Escape. We expect these sets to come out sometime over the spring.

Another new film from Marvel that will do very well is Iron Man 3. We have already seen an Ironman minifigure brought out with Avengers Lego and we are told that we are going to get some new sets based specifically on Iron Man 3. In fact there have now been three new sets mentioned that have Iron Man as the theme. These will be Malibu Mansion, Extremis and Iron Man vs Mandarin.

Staying with Marvel we are also expecting something to be released based on Ultimate Spiderman. There are two known sets coming out and these will be Mission At The Daily Bugle and the interesting sounding Hunting With Spider-Cycle. Again we are unsure of when these will be released but we expect it to be around the summer time.

As you can see 2013 looks like be a very exciting year for Lego Superheroes fans. With the release of Batman Arkham City Lego sets fans will really be excited to see this new line of Batman toys. Along with these there are plenty of other interesting new releases to come and so fans should be kept very busy. As we mentioned earlier some of the information on this page will change over the coming months so we will keep it up to date and bring you all the latest news and information as it is all confirmed.
