Shelob Attacks 9470 - Lego LOTR Sets - Release Date, Prices

Updated on May 3, 2012

On this page we are going to take a look at Shelob Attacks, the new Lord Of The Rings Lego set. Shelob Attacks has the item number 9470 and we are going to take a close look at the set, talk about release dates, prices and anything else you might need to know. We will also take a look at some other LOTR Lego sets that are to be released soon and find out where you can buy these online.

Fans of the trilogy have been in anticipation of Lego sets for many years now. Finally Lego decided to strike up a deal with Warner Brothers and give fans what they wanted. So in 2012 we are going to see Lord Of The Rings and also Hobbit Lego toys. These really are exciting releases for the company and will quite possibly be the most eagerly awaited releases in the history of Lego. So let’s now take a closer look at one of the forthcoming releases.

Shelob Attacks Set

Shelob Attacks 9470 Lego Set

So in January 2012 Lego announced that they would be releasing seven LOTR sets as an initial wave. These are to be released in June and we are also going to see some Hobbit sets later in the year. One of the first sets we are going to see is to be called Shelob Attacks. This set has the item number 9470 and is one of the smaller of the new sets containing just over 200 pieces. Latest news is that this set along with the other new ones will be released sometime in June.

To many this set may come as a little bit of a surprise. There were various other scenes from the film that would probably have been easier to turn into a Lego format. However, the initial previews of this set do look quite interesting. The set is based on one of the most impressive scenes from the third film, The Return Of The King. This scene features Frodo, Sam, Gollum and of course Shelob the giant spider. This is quite a dark scene in the film and one of the more impressive ones.

The actual Lego set itself features three minifigures. We get a different version of Frodo, a new Sam and most interestingly, Gollum. We are also going to see a few minifigures accessories held by Sam such as the sword Sting and Earendils Star. Fans of the series who want all the minifigures may want to buy this one just for the figures alone as this does appear to be the one set that contains Gollum who will no doubt be a very sought after minifigure indeed.

The main part of this set is obvious Shelob. You build the giant spider using the blocks and from what we have seen of it this is one nice looking spider. There is also a small cave you can build up which in the film is the entrance to Cirith Ungol. As you can see from the picture there is some great detail on Shelob and Lego really have worked very hard to make this look as realistic as possible.

This is the second smallest of the new sets, second to Gandalf Arrives. Due to that fact it is set to be quite cheap, so prices for this one look like being around the $20 mark. Not bad value when you consider you get three important minifigures included with this one. Currently this is the only set to be taken from The Return Of The King so we are expecting more sets from this film to be released at a later date.

The Lego Set Itself

Other New LOTR Lego Sets

As well as Shelob Attacks we are also going to see some other really nice sets based on the three movies. These are just the first releases and it is expected that there will be more coming out in the future. So we are also going to see Gandalf Arrives which is the smallest of the new sets, The Mines Of Moria which is a larger set, Uruk-Hai Army which is a battle set and only features bad guys, The Battle Of Weathertop which has some rather nice Ringwraiths, The Orc Forge and The Battle Of Helms Deep which is going to be by far the largest of the new sets we get released. Now all the official pictures are out as you can see, LOTR fans are going to be in for a real treat.

Obviously we are also going to see some interesting Hobbit Lego coming out in the future, but it will also be really interesting to see which LOTR sets we also see coming out. There are so many classic scenes in the movies and fans would no doubt love to see some of these turned in to Lego. Some of the ones that spring to mind include, Rivendell, Orthanc, Mount Doom, Minas Tirith and lots more. The next few years looks like being a really exciting time for Lord Of The Rings Lego fans.

So as you can see there are some really nice sets coming out in the near future. With the release of Shelob Attacks Lego set 9470 we are going to see another classic scene brought into the Lego world. Hopefully this page will have wet your appetite for what is to come in the near future. One thing that we can be sure of, the Lego Lord Of Rings series will not disappoint.
