Board Games for a 12 Year Old

Playing board games in a video game world is a refreshing experience.

Personally, I grew up on board games and cards. One day of every week, we would have family night of cards or a game. We would pop popcorn or make some other snack. It was a fun night and something I miss doing. My husband got tired of losing to me. But whenever my daughter is around we try to get a game or two in.

These are my picks for what a 12 year old would like to play with.

On the edge of becoming teenagers Louis and Lynn already have paper routes and learning to save their money. They are both two smart individuals. ThriveTime, not only is an educational game, but a fun game too.

Since the twins are turning 12 and most of their friends are around the age of 13, this will be a fun icebreaker game to play at their Birthday party.

The game play is simple: on each turn, either move your pawn one space closer to the finish line, or use one of your two-square wide tiles to block your opponent's progress (you start with ten of these), but you can't completely block them in. Whoever gets there first, wins! Each game takes on its own personality, as new strategies constantly evolve.

This is the type of game for Louis and Lynn to put their thinking caps on. Both children are creative. It will be interesting to see what types of games they create.

Fun to yell jinxed and that person has to start all over again. A straight forward game and easy to learn.
