Why do you enjoy playing video games?

I enjoy playing video games because it immerses me into a whole new world, a fantasy world beyond reality (I play a lot of RPG games)

Honestly, your answer is pretty spot-on for me as well. Some games though, I just play to have fun. When I play an RPG its for the story, and the elements of fantasy. When I play a game like Mario... it's just because it's fun. I don't have the words to describe it.

I am fairly certain, its not because I have any deep-rooted dreams about jumping on turtles, though... So it's not so much the escape from reality element.

Because sometimes it relieves my stress and anxiety. And sometimes I just want to have fun and pretend I'm inside the character (for giggles). I love video games, what would we do without them? smile

Video games help me scratch a lot of different itches.
Currently: I enjoy playing Starcraft for the competitive thrill; Skyrim for that RPG immersion you mentioned; and Ascension on the iPhone for the puzzle-solving/number crunching portions of my brain.

Some games - notably the Mass Effect, Metal Gear and Uncharted franchises - often feel more like I'm watching an interactive movie or visual novel, which I like.

Before I became a dad, I played a lot of WoW, which definitely was about socialization for me. Going on Raids, I'd feel the same kind of excitement you feel when competing in a team sport.

Escapism from the real world. I adore fantasy. As a writer, I also take inspiration for creativity from video games, particularly zombie games and RPG games.

I don't unless it's with my kids.  They are too addictive for me.  My kids love the fitness games the most.

I do indeed enjoy playing video games. The surreal fact of traveling to an entirely different, unique & adventurous dimension is quite an enjoyable pastime, to say the least!

Because it is fun to take on the role of the character and have the cinematic adventures that you can not have in real life.

I enjoy playing video games because it is a bit like traveling to another word or environment.  It least that is where my mental focus goes.  Currently my favorite game to play is Monster Hunter for the Wii.  The lands and some of the monsters look really nice.  I get to fight dragons and other monsters in places with some really nice scenery and I need to use my brain.

When I was younger I played a lot of adventure games like King's Quest.  Now that I have a Wii I often play the sports games and some puzzle ones.  It can be a fun way to pass the time.

I also enjoy RPG's and love getting immersed into them. I also like games that challenge my mind and make me think. And sometimes I like to play casual games, just to chill out and have fun. I also take advantage of the social aspect of MMORPGs. So there are many reasons I enjoy gaming, what is there not to like? It's been a lifetime love affair of mine since age 5.

I've played video games all through childhood. They have always been a huge part of my life, starting with "Sonic The Hedgehog." When I was about to turn 13, my dad had to move away because of a job, and playing on the Wii became the only way we could spend time together when I was in school. Now, I'm in college working toward a career in the video game industry. I want to make games that bring families together like they did for me and my dad.
