Were you ever a coin collector, and what became of your collection?

Did you ever collect coins as a hobby?  What was your favorite thing about collecting, and do you still have your collection?

Yes, I collect ancient Roman coins. I don't know why I like it, but there is something fascinating about the 2,000-year old history that some have. The mints in which they were struck are usually indicated and the coin reverse usually commemorates some interesting event. Plus, the obverse displays the Roman Emperor at the time. As an historian, it's interesting to note that as these coins become more recent over the centuries, they started becoming smaller and most were starting to be made from less precious metals. It's just like the coinage today. Today there is no silver or gold and there is very little copper in any of our zinc-allow pieces of scrap. The Romans did the same thing we do today regarding worthless currency.
