Mine was sidewalk chalk. I still enjoy using chalk to play hopscotch with my granddaughters or just to create clever and creative drawings for the neighbors to enjoy while they walk past our home.

We didn't have any so-called toys in the 1800's.  It was really tough to be a kid.....even tougher to be a happy kid.
My Sis & I were very creative though.....we played "Hide the button,"  "Burn down the weeds""  and  "Roll the rock."
This was on Sunday afternoons only, after spending 6 hours in church on Sunday morning.   Monday through Friday we had to get up at 4 am. & milk the cows and gather the eggs for breakfast.  Then we'd walk the 8 miles to our school house  (in bare feet).
By the time we got home, it was time to make dinner, bring in the wood for the fire, take a bath in the creek and go to bed on our straw mattresses.
All day Saturday we baked bread, tended to the farm animals and weeded the garden.  Then we'd walk to town for some supplies at the General Store & watch the people walk on by.

Yep, we had a great childhood.....

Hide the button sounds interesting...I bet you both had clever hiding spots. Thanks for sharing about life in the 1800's! smile

My favorite game as a child is still my favorite as an adult, I started playing basketball at the age of 5 & still love playing it today. So I guess a basketball would be my favorite toy.

Simply playing out side. I loved playing outside, getting in the woods, biking up hills, playing in the tree house, and just enjoying being outside. I never had a favorite toy that I remember.

I loved climbing trees when I was a little girl. I'd challenge myself to see how high I could go. I also loved swinging - still do. It tickles my tummy!

I don't think we could ever be too old to swing smile
