Hypnosis in giving birth was first researched by Dr. Grantly Dick-Read in 1940 by tying to find out the uses of hypnosis in assisting the women in times of labor and actual giving birth. He studied the way you can make the muscles work into your advantage when giving birth and he sad that women describe feeling lost in a daydream, relaxed, calm, aware and in control.

There are variations to hypnosis as a technique in giving birth, these are :

  • Hypnobabies,
  • the Lamaze method,
  • Natal Hypnotherapy, FreshStart
  • and the GentleBirth program.

For the mother :

  • Remove fear and tension pertaining to labor and pregnancy issues
  • Ease labor pains
  • Intense relaxation will enhance natural birthing instincts that lead to a calm and serene birth experience.

For the babies :

  • It has been found out in research hat children which are born to mothers who use hypnosis as a technique in giving birth are more relax and can sleep better

In a study conducted in Australia it has been found out that hypnosis technique in giving birth can :

  • reduced the length of labor plus
  • reduced the incidence of pain medication use

In general, hypnotherapists who specialize in this technique for pregnant women can tailor they hypnosis on individual needs of women, for some who have fears, phobias in giving birth
