How to Protect Your Eyes When Using a Computer

Updated on April 20, 2015

Computer and Health

Nowadays, people spend lots of time in front of a computer. After long hours of sitting and no exercise, many of us develop health issues like neck pain, back pain, wrist pain, dry eyes and vision problem. Our immune system also weakens. We get sick easily and it takes longer for us to recover. However, there are things we can do to prevent or eliminate the negative impact that High Tech imposes on our health.

Let’s start with the food we eat. Again, as I said many times before, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially to those who sit in front of a monitor all day long, staring at the screen for hours at a time. A nutrient-balanced meal helps us maintain our energy level, so that we are able to perform tasks that are both physically and mentally demanding.

For lunch, one should have a meal that is rich in protein, such as white meat (Chicken/fish etc.), beans and tofu. As for dinner, anything heavy or hard to digest should be scratched from the menu. A healthy dinner contains mostly vegetables or food that is high in fiber. Vitamin A is very good for our eyes. We can either take daily Vitamin A supplement, or food such as liver, milk, walnut, carrots, spinach, tomato, Goji Berries and some fresh fruits. Also, egg yolk, fish, shrimp, walnut and peanut are good for our brain.

Last but not the least, exercise, for every hour or two spend in front of a computer, we should exercise for a few minutes, and do some simple stretch, sit-ups, or look out the window just to relax our eyes (Yes, tell your boss it’s all for a good cause and he/she should try it sometimes).

Final Words from the Author

Be kind to yourself, learn to love and take a good care of yourself first. For with all the money in the world one thing a person cannot buy is health. Please visit my previous postings for more health related information (see the links below).

Your health tips are really useful; especially to hubbers like us. I am voting your hub "up" and "useful" so that it will be considered by HubPages as a useful and insightful content.

As an internet addict, I spend nearly 3 hours per day in front of my PC and its even more in holidays and weekends. This has made me sedentary and I've started to feel pains in my neck. Thanks for your guide and more hubs about health, I'll try to incorporate your ideas into my offline life so as to be productive online!
