I lie in Corpse Pose and relax the body with deep, natural breathing. Then I tune into each chakra for a few breaths, usually starting at the root and moving up to the crown. I don't impose any system of colors, or try to add any energy. I just witness each chakra as it is.
If I find that a chakra is out of balance, I give it more time, maybe a meditation of its own. But, in doing this deeper kind of work, I am careful to begin and end with mindfulness of the breath, and to ground myself well afterwards.
I've also worked with energy & colors with the chakras, but this is best done with a teacher, so I share methods only with those who work with me regularly. More powerful chakra work can lead to headaches, illnesses, and other difficulties.
