   How can I help a bruise to go away?
   
   Three weeks after an operation, I still have some deep bruises. Any remedies please?

   I hope your recovery is going well!  Once bruising has taken place, I really don't know anything that significantly speeds the healing process. There is some thought that papain or bromelain, natural protein busters from papaya and pineapple, may help break down the damaged blood cells, especially when combined with heat applications that dilate the blood vessels and allow for easy clearance of this cellular debris. The best approach is application of cold packs/ice at the first sign of injury. It helps prevent bruising from the get go and offers pain relief.

      Thanks, recovery is going well, but I could do without the bruises. Didn't have the option of ice initially, which I'd normally use. Will look into your suggestion.

   Hopefully your recovery is going well. As far as bruising goes, once it's there it's hard to get rid of quickly. Ice packs can help speed up the process, although this method is usually used to prevent bruising as well.
   
   Whether they work or not - I don't know exactly, but cabbage leaves, onion layers, raw potato or even parsley have been used for years and are placed on the bruised area and said to have healing powers. Arnica gel is another remedy that's said to help the healing process and will also moisturize the skin.
   
   TriDerma Bruise Healing Cream (Amazon) has a good write up from customers. Might be worth looking into.

   Hydrogen Peroxide on a cotton ball dotted on the bruised area a few times a day and the bruise will soon fade and disappear.  That is one remedy that I use and it has always worked.

   I've found vitamin E oil works well to fade bruises. You can use it straight out of a bottle or clip the end of a vitamin E capsule, squeeze the oil out and then massage it gently into the skin. If you don't have either on hand, olive oil works well, too. I wish you good luck on your recovery!
