It's very difficult.  For me I suffer from PTSD but it was not from being in the military.  Joining the Army actually was the best thing for me.  It made me a stronger person both physically and mentally.  And it helped me grow into a more confident woman.

My PTSD stems from when I was bullied in elementary and high school and a semester or two in college-just before I joined.  I find myself thinking back to times when I was hurt and found myself angry, hurt and bitter.  The best coping mechanism is forgiving those who hurt me and it works.  Maybe try that.

I also know that I can't change my past so instead of regretting some bad decisions I have made, I remind myself that it is a lesson learned so I don't make the same mistakes.

Thank you for sharing your experience and memories with me,you are truly a hero and an inspiration for many girls who suffered from bullying. It takes a strong person to turn something negative happening in his life to something positive like you did

Your future lies ahead of you and not behind you.
Focus on the future and don't look back.
In order to "move on" one has to be willing to "let go".
Depending on what it is; you may have to do a private ritual.
Some people write things down, grab photos, or whatever; say a few words and toss it into the fire announcing out loud that they are through dwelling on it.
Learning to control one's thoughts and focus on what (you) want is something each of us has to practice on a daily basis.
It's easier to create a new memory than to erase an old one. Therefore create a list of new goals and dreams then go about achieving them.
Don't let your history keep you from your destiny.
If you want something different (you) have to do something different! Sometimes it means cutting "toxic people" out of your life or relocating. Visualize and affirm whatever it is you want.
Every ending is a new beginning!

Try to always keep your thoughts on the here and now. Don't keep re-living the past. Don't make yourself keep suffering. Life is now. Life only happens now so keep it in the present moment. Past memories or thoughts only have as much power as you give them. Don't let past memories ruin your present life now. Get happiness from inside yourself. Listen to happy music, watch shows that entertain you or make you happy.
