What effect does wrong food combinations have on health?

A friend and I were discussing eating habits. We agreed that fish and cheese or hamburger and cheese are not to be served together. She told me her daughter and grandaughter separated food from age two- insisting certain foods be served in separate dishes.Children often eat hot dog first then the bread. Her protest is that her family is not Jewish; so where did her daughter and grandaughter get the idea? Another friend says she does not eat her fruit in combination. Is there a guideline for food combination that is for all people whether Jews or Gentile?

Kosher guidlines are healthy for all of us Jew or Gentile. They are the civilized way to eat. While something maybe permissable to eat, it is not always the most benificial.

Children can express their bodies innate needs  with out the baggage and social influence adults often, or just sometimes have.

Post Script: Some people are of Jewish heritage and may not realize it, so it would make sense when they automatically adhere to observances such as the dietary laws with out considering the leagalism aspect.

When frequently experiencing indigestion, we should learn to watch the kind of foods eaten. The cause of indigestion is eating badly prepared foods, grilled foods, fried foods, junk foods and other types of foods. Also we should have a balanced diet like a combination of proteins (meat and pulses), vegetables, starch and fruits, to be eaten at least one hour before or after meals.

I'm not sure I really understand the question outside of religious conditions.

As long as you have a sensible balanced diet, there's not really much issue with combinations of food. There is a popular MYTH out there that says you should not consume protein and carbohydrate in the same meal. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

Some individuals may find that certain combinations of foods do not agree with them, but this is an individual concern and not indicative of any nutritional rules for people in general.

Foods that digest quickly (most fruits) should not be eaten with foods that will have to stay in the intestinal tract longer (proteins, such as beef, chicken, pork).

The book Alkalize or Die, by Dr. T.A. Baroody, suggests eating fruit at least 20 minutes prior to eating other foods to allow the fruit to have a head-start on the system.

Heavy meat/protein foods mixed with fruit can slow down elimination and cause the fruit to putrefy (rot) which sometimes result in foul burps, excessive gas, and food hardening in the lining of the intestines which ultimately may be the cause for some diseases.

I agree with "personaltraining", I have been taught that protein and carbs combos actually constitutes a basic meal and should be eaten together.

Certain foods and fruit juices can assist in releasing nutrients in other foods. If I take an iron pill, I drink orange juice which is a good binding agent.

Who or what defines wrong?  Mistakes in combination can lead to positive results just as easily as negative.

    A good general rule is

    mix sweet and sour
    mix soft and crunchy

Beyond that who cares if it's fish or ice cream or what ever. If you like it, go for it.  If someone else turns up their nose at you, it's they that have a problem with snobbishness.
