What criteria do you use to choose a surgeon to operate on you?
Very good question, Pam. First of all, there are many men and women out there who are excellent surgeons. Depending on what system of your body will be operated on, this determines the kind of surgeon will need. For example, if your surgery will be for a gallbladder problem, it would be okay to have a general surgeon do the surgery. It the problem happens to be a neurological problem, or nervous system problem, then of course, you will need a neurosurgeon.
Your primary health care provider, whomever he or she is, is the critical person who will help you to choose a surgeon. Your primary care doctor is, hopefully, someone you can trust to help you choose the correct person to do the surgeon. Many times, it takes a team of people to complete a surgery successfully, so your surgeon, as the leader of that team, is a critical person. The decision must be made using good judgement and experience, by your primary care physician.
I hope that this answer has helped some. Let me know how you doing and if things worked out well for you.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
when i have had surgery, i ask for an interview with the proposed surgeon. prior to the meeting, i research the surgery to gain some sense of what and how it will be done. also, how often the average surgeon performs the operation annually as well as the average outcomes. during that interview, i ask the surgeon the same questions, ask what concerns he/she may have, what aftercare is involved. i have also asked about rehab expectations along with specifics about that phase. do not be afraid to challenge the surgeon if needed, or to select another surgeon.

I had a total hip replacement operation on March 14th and encountered numerous complications and some that were found to be non-existent after the fact. During the actual surgery, the docs concluded-erroneously-that I had had a heart attack, so I was 'lifeflighted' to the nearest Cardiac Unit...

Would you feel comfortable if your surgeon smoked a joint 10minutes before he did surgery on you?POTUS has said marijuana should be legal.. It is in several states. We hear about medical marijuana, being good, but do you want doctors, pilots, truck drivers smoking it and working?
